Lynhurst, the sibling pop-rock trio from Minneapolis, is Mari (19), Matt (22) and Jake (23). The band left the University of Minnesota to pursue an education in rock and roll. For most of the past year, Lynhurst has been in Los Angeles writing, recording, and performing. In support of their latest album Field Day, the band is on a national tour this fall.
Named after their wooded neighborhood park frequented by the members as children, Lynhurst's musical roots run deep. Raised in a house with a basement full of old instruments, the brothers began writing, recording, and performing publically as pre-teens. About the time Jake and Matt secured their drivers licenses, then 13 year-old Mari, already an accomplished visual artist and creative writer, grabbed a pair of drumsticks and joined her older brothers' band. Maris vocal prowess grew as she matured as a drummer and songwriter. From the front and center on drums, and flanked by her brothers guitars and keyboards, she is now the lead singer. The siblings twice earned the Minnesota Music Academy Teen Artists of the Year Award and admission into the inaugural GRAMMY® Camp class.
Last year, the band members headed to Hollywood to pursue a full-time music career. What started out as a 2 week showcase visit became a 6-month residency as venues, managers, agents, and producers discovered the band. Multiple performances at The Hotel Café, The Viper Room, The Roxy, and other known So. Cal. venues were alternated with writing and recording sessions. The band completed Field Day and then worked on new material with producer Kevin Augunas (Cold War Kids; The Hush Sound) and songwriter/musician Greg Camp (Smash Mouth).
Field Day resonates Carpenters meets Cardigans as Lynhurst blends clever songwriting and musical proficiency in 11 songs ranging from the urgent young-love lyric of lead track Kiss Me Now to the quirky sarcasm of the misleadingly cute Exactly. Led by Mari's mesmerizing vocals, Lynhurst live and recorded is pop-rock dished-up sweet yet sassy, with a subtle lyrical bite.
