About me:
I have 2 cats, Jack and Bill which were about one where I adopted them from the RSPCA. See photo album ANTICS OF JACK AND BILL. Jack is so called because he was fasinated with looking at himself in the mirror when I first had him, so he is a "Jack the Lad". Bill, however was terrified. I think he spent the first 6 weeks hiding behind the TV cabinet, refusing to come out. So, I sat next to the TV cabinet talking to him gently and Jack would go and sit with him, and passed Bill cat biscuits which he would drag towards him with his paw. If he got too scared he would lash out with his claws, which was very quick. So after much blood letting I decided he was "Billy the Kid" because he was quick on the claw. (such a bad joke!) Anyway, hence Jack and Bill.
They had never been outside, so after a few months of us getting used to each other, I decided to try and get them to venture out. I had to sit outside with my head through the cat flap, talking to them to try and coax them out with kind words and cat biscuits. It was a long, but wonderful day. The faces they pulled when the wind ruffled thier fur and they walked on grass for the first time, stopping frequently to sniff the air for all the new smells, they running frantically back into the house at any new noise. It was magical.
Have a look as well at my photo album NATURE. All the photos I have taken, were shot in my back garden. It also looks like I have a thing about bees, but I like to see them flitting around the garden with that droning buzzzzzz. I have put a couple of photos in with a butterfly in, and I don't know what it is, so if there are any nature buffs out there, I would be greatful if you could let me know. Recently watched Land of the Lost Volcano. Brilliant reality TV at it's best, but disappointed it was only in 3 parts. Also, catching the re-runs of Deadly 60. Just too funny for words. Monty Halls' documentary about Spinner Dolphins in Brazil was very good and if anyone ever gets the chance to see NATURE SHOCK - JELLYFISH INVASION, watch it!. I am not a particularly squeamish person, but when I saw the bit when the Japanese fishermen were trying to disperse the swarm, it made me cringe. The jellyfish are bigger than dustbin lids and twice as slimy! Autumn Watch starts again on Friday 2nd October, so something good on the box, at last.
I have been taking evening classes for about 4 years to learn to make cakes and make sugarflowers. Take a look at my photo albums CAKES FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS and SUGARFLOWERS. They normally end up as gifts and if you can't practice on your family and friends then who can you?Still studying 1 night a week and have 3 years left to go. (Hopefully, I will be happy with something I have made by then. I am my own worst critic!)
I also have a warped need to just make things. See photo album ARTY FARTY. Please be gentle with your comments, as it is the first time I have really shown anything to anyone outside the family. REMEMBRANCE is my anti-war protest. The crazed red squares are poppies in a field and I have used thin strips of lead the weave around them. Nails are hammered around the edge. I thought the following was an appropriate short verse to go with it,
" As the poppies scatter the seeds they must sow,
if world warfare continues the death toll will grow.
Lynn Foxall 2009"
I can't tell you what sort of art I like, but I know it when I see it. I went to see the Monet exhibition in London in 1999 and thought it was wonderful, but quite sad. I didn't realise his works were so large, I felt dwarfed standing in front of them. You could see how his work changed as he got older and his eyesight started to fail and thats what I found sad.
I would like to visit Barcelona to see Gaudi's work and the park. A kaleidoscope of colour and way ahead of his time. Even now, I think.
I like genuine, honest people who care about humanity, the environment, animals. I hate - foul mouthed people (though I am no saint!), anti-social behaviour, racism, discrimination of any sort, violence, reality T.V., the epidemic of so called 'celebrity culture', excessive displays of wealth and creepy men smelling of smoke and alcohol (with feeble chat up lines of "hello beautiful - sweetie - you're so cute" etc.) EXCUSE ME - I HAVE A BRAIN AND I AM NOT AFRAID TO USE IT!
Get in touch if you would like to natter, but please don't be offended if I don't get back to you straight away.
