JAMES ALEXANDER, the son of Rev. Alberta L. Alexander, is a native of New Jersey and began singing in New Hope Baptist Church at the age of 5. His first performance in front of "regular people" (people not from his church) was in 6th grade where he won the solo spot in the fall concert at Toms River Elementary School. Well that inspired him to sing more and it's been non stop since. JAMES is no stranger to the entertainment arena. A recipient of the Connecticut Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Performance, He has an impressive list of credentials that span the musical stage, cabaret, concerts and recordings. He covered the Voice of the Plant (Audrey 2) and was dance captain in the 1st National Tour of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS directed by Jerry Zaks and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall and starred Off-Broadway in A BRIEF HISTORY OF WHITE MUSIC (originating role) directed and choreographed by Ken Roberson. His many other stage credentials include starring roles in FIVE GUYS NAMED MOE (Big Moe), THE WIZ (Cowardly Lion), CHILDREN OF EDEN (Father), A FUNNY THING HAPPENED...FORUM starring Eddie Mekka and BUBBLIN’ BROWN SUGAR directed by George Faison.
JAMES has shared the concert stage with such notable talents as Patti LaBelle, Gregory Hines, Savion Glover, Linda Eder and Billy Preston and has performed his one man show " ALWAYS SOMETHING THERE TO REMIND ME" in venues throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. His recording career produced the hit albums “Everyday’s a Holiday” and “Meet the Beat” (Melody House Records), “A Life That Can Never Be” (Jerome Records) and two recent independent single recordings “All About Love” and “One Woman Man.”
The New York Times says JAMES ALEXANDER “Delivers” and Liz Smith calls JAMES ALEXANDER “Soulful...Passionate...Flawless!” and suggest that everyone “Catch him while he’s still affordable.” The Daily News writes, "James' silky vocals remind us of a young Luther Vandross."His latest stage presentation is sure to display his unique vocal and theatrical talents and versatility.
