Mabry Hood was a classic example of 'The Universe' putting a band together. Ken Keeling, Jr. (vox) and John Kuca, Jr. (gtr and current VERTIGO BUTTERFLY member) had written several songs together a few months prior to actively pursuing the building of a complete band. Dan Stanard (bass gtr) and John Huotari (percussion) had simultaneuously been writing their own brand of songs. The piece of the puzzle that brought both units together was Dave Abbruzzese of Pearl Jam. Ken & John were checking out some band at The Offramp when they met Dave & his girlfriend Sherrie just off tour. Dan Stanard's number was given to Ken & John by Dave's girlfriend Sherrie. Mabry Hood the band was born the next day.
After playing together for 3 months, Phil Ek was hired to engineer & mix Mabry Hood's first self-titled, self-released album (I will be uploading the songs as soon as I locate a copy of them again). This album opened quite a few doors for the band. Seattle show-goers saw them play everywhere from The Re-bar to The Colourbox, The Crocodile Cafe, etc... The next self-released album was entitled 'OH THE GLAMOUR' and was recorded at The Seattle Drum School of Music by TODD FOGELSONGER using his Crystal Park Mobile Recording Studio. The band continued to get shows in Seattle as well as the surrounding areas including but not limited to Portland, Oregon - Tacoma, Washington & Vancouver, BC. A West Coast tour was being prepared as the band developed a hemorrage in 1995 and disbanded. Written reviews of 'Oh The Glamour' continued to call Mabry Hood "one of the best up & coming bands" as late as 1996, a year after the band's demise. All of you old Mabry Hood fans, where are you? If you have any old flyers from shows or photographs or ANYTHING related to Mabry Hood, PLEASE forward them to me so that I may post them here.
