About me:
I used to be a soundman at Mabuhay Gardens, first for Dirk Dirksen(1977) then again for Ness Aquino in 1981 when Dirk moved upstairs to the On Broadway. Ness called me one day panicked, Dirk had moved upstairs and Ness needed a P.A. so I got him one and went to work for Ness, for my second time at Mabuhay Gardens. Dirk was the first guy in the business to give me a break. I'd lied about my age, told him I was 23 (not 18) and he hired me, first as a doorman, then he let me migrate into the Sound Department with UREX Reed Ashby & Audrey Judd. Dirk let me videotape Brittley Black & The Next, Live at Mabuhay Gardens whom I'd just gotten out of the recording studio with, engineering producing what we though would be an album (1978). In short it'll be the second release on Mabuhay Records this year (2007). I started Mabuhay Records on a very sad day, Dirk Dirksen's Memorial on Dec. 2, 2006. Afterwards we were all outside, a lot of of the musicians and their artists friends that hung around Mabuhay Gardens back in the day. I was speaking with Johnny Strike & Hank Rank from CRIME, I told them I was going to release Brittley Black & The Next on CD (Their former CRIME drummer) and Hank asked me; "What label are you going to put it out on?" I said "I Dunno, maybe we'll start Mabuhay Records" Everyone's eyes lit up, that when it hit me "Why Not?" I love the old S.F. Punk Bands that I used to mix back in 1977-1982 and I want to preserve that sound. I started Mabuhay Records because I couldn't find recordings of the bands I wanted. There was no alternative but to start my own record label and approach the bands individually.
After the first 6 months I decided to be a private label, releasing short runs of 1000 CDs when I felt inspired. So that's what I'm doing now, our first release is "The Best Of Mabuhay Volume #1. It's 15 bands representing 30 years of S.F. Punk.
