Hot Press Review
Maca (no not macca) is Ian McNamara, a songwriter who also avoids the solo acoustic guitar route. On 'Downtown' he offers a pleasantly expressive voice against an acoustic guitar driven background and a song about late night trains. 'So I Can Grow' has a band sound behind decent vocals and has a smart arrangement that keeps you logged on. 'Resurrection' changes the mood again. It's a speedy fuzz guitar driven thing, with a funk-lite feel in places.

Limerick Event Guide
For those of you in search of an
up and coming singer-songwriter
type, you need look no further than
your own front door. Hailing from
Limerick, Maca offers a distinct sound
that at times clearly draws influence
from artists such as Ryan Adams and
The Smiths. At other times, however,
it proves difficult to place a finger on
his sound and this is precisely where
the musician draws a blank.
When asked to describe his music
he admits that he is unable to do
so, and instead lists other musicians
who’s work he admires such as Prince,
Tom Waits, Radiohead and that demi-
God of singer-songwriters, Jeff Buckley.
Maca is currently studying Music
Production in L.I.T which grants him
access to studios to record his own
compositions and collaborate with
other artists.
Maca is living up to the new stream
of multi-instrumentalist solo artists
that are floating about on the scene.
He plays practically every instrument
on his self-titled debut EP. If you
want to check out his Tom Waits
inspired melodies then click here and
add him on Myspace: http://www.
myspace.com/macamusic.
Catch Maca live when he supports
Baby Jenx at their upcoming Baker
Place gig on November 7th or further
up the way at the Roisin Dubh,
Galway on November 11th.
