Mac's influences stem from the classic R&B and soul artists to contemporary songsmiths and crooners. From Michael Jackson, Prince and James Brown to Boys II Men, Joe, Coldplay and Jeff Buckley, his love for a great song and great performance are what drive him and stimulate him musically. A young Michael Jackson once said "I don't sing it if I don't mean it", and these are few of the words that have rung true throughout Mac's career.
"There are few things in the world quite like a great song, with a great melody shaped and sung to perfection by a moved and (therefore) moving vocalist. The resulting fusion is nothing short of a spiritual moment."
Born on New Year’s Day in the twilight of the disco funk and progressive rock era, Mark Graham McAuley (a.k.a. Mac Graham) entered the world with a glint in his eye and music in his soul. One of Mac’s first musical utterances was of the ‘horizontal song’ by Olivia Newton-John “Physical”. The germ of those earlier sexy-strains live on in a slightly different, yet arguably sexier form in Graham’s “Push” and his electro-funk “Rock U”.
Mac, formerly of the Canadian Pop/Vocal group the McAuley Boys, is the third of four brothers: Gary, George, Mark (Mac) and Randy. His recording and performance experience spans a decade in the music industry. These credits include live appearances in the United States, the UK, Australia (representing Toronto in its 2008 Olympic bid), and in his native country of Canada. His voice appears on the chart-topping songs “Down Down Down”, “Without Your Love” and the Andy Gibb re-make, “I Just Want To Be Your Everything”, all of which were released on the Juno Award nominated album, “In Another Lifetime.”
Along with Juno nominations and performances, nationwide tours and numerous network television appearances, Mac has enjoyed sharing the stage with some of music’s greats including The Godfather of Soul, James Brown, The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, The Temptations and Gladys Knight to name a few.
Mac’s debut release, “7 Grahams” was a limited edition EP that spawned the smooth lead-off single “You’ll Never Know”. In addition to garnering high global roatation on BET Jazz, the video for the single was nominated for an MTV/HBO Urbanworld short film award in 2006. Mac was invited to perform at the opening gala at the MTV headquarters in New York City.
Currently Mac is in preparation for his next release, “Midnight”, co-written and produced with his brother Gary (a.k.a. Macadacious), featuring a truly original cover of the 1980’s smash hit “Bette Davis Eyes” and ten hot more electro-funk and soul cuts. Look for the standouts “Now that You’re Gone”, “Push” and “Can’t Stop” to draw attention to this hot and hidden Canadian gem. In 2010, Mac Graham and his band will be hitting the road to deliver a very hot and new ‘physical’ experience!
