Machiko Ozawa, a former concertmaster of Orquesta Sinfonica Sinaloa de Las Artes, gave her debut recital at the Carnegie Weill Recital Hall in February 2002 as a winner of Artist International Audition in 2001. She was a soloist with C. W. POST Chamber Orchestra as a 1st prizewinner of its concerto competition in 2001. She was a featured soloist with Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra under Jack Elliot at the Royce Hall in LA in 2000, as well as serving as a concertmaster with Jerry Goldsmith, one of most popular composers of movie sound track in Hollywood. During the season of 2003-4, She commissioned and premiered her original concerto, “Syrenes” for violin, percussion and orchestra, by North Shore Symphony Orchestra. She was a finalist of New York International Tango Competition in 2004. In 2005, She was a featured soloist with Orquesta Sinfonica Sinaloa de las Artes in Mexico, where She has served a concertmaster. She was sponsored by YAMAHA foundation during the season of 2005-6. Highlight of 2007 is Tap Dance Soloist with North Shore Symphony Orchestra, performing Morton Gould’s Tap Dance Concerto and Solo Recitals at Merkin Concert Hall and Tokyo Bunka Kaikan.
Machiko began her musical studies playing the piano at the age of three and at the age of eight began studying the violin. Her first performance with the orchestra as a soloist is at Iino Hall in Tokyo with Tokyo New City Orchestra when she was 14 years old. She earned her Bachelor's degree at the Tokyo National University of fine arts and Music (Tokyo-Gei-Dai) under Takashi Shimizu and Chikashi Tanaka. After graduation she studied with Yfrah Neaman at Guildhall Music School in London, where she received a diploma. She has received a Master's degree at The Juilliard School, where she studied with Masao Kawasaki, Lewis Kaplan, and has been coached by Jonathan Feldman, Earl Carless, Eugene Becker, and Joseph Kalichstein.
She participated in Tanglewood Summer Festival, Aspen Music Festival, C.W.Post Chamber Music Festival, Henry Mancini Institute, Dartington International Summer Festival as a fellowship/scholarship student. She has appeared in the master classes by Robert Mann, Yfrah Neaman, Ruggiero Ricch, Guagneri Quartet, Amadeus Quartet, La Sale Quartet and Juilliard String Quartet.
She has performed in major venues in Japan, U.S.A. and England as a soloist, a chamber player and an orchestra player, including Tokyo-Bunka-Kaikan, Suntory-Hall, Orchard-Hall, Tokyo Tsuda hall, Iino- Hall, Casals Hall, Kanagawa-Kenritsu-Doum, Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Paul Hall, Morse Recital Hall, Hubbard Hall, Royce Hall, New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Art Tower Mito, Minatomirai Hall, Denki Bunka Kaikan, Ozawa Hall in Tanglewood and Barbican Centre in London.
Although trained classically, Machiko now extends her musical range to a variety of music styles including jazz improvisation, world music and computer music. As a founding member of JUSTADUO, Pablo Quartet and M2duo(formally-M2O), she frequently performs at the major venues in the US and Japan.
