Machina Sol is a new creation of four Bay Area musicians whose individual musical voyages include tours, performances and recordings with top artists like Lauryn Hill, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Pete Escovedo, Cachao, John Santos, Mickey Hart, and countless others. Stepping out on their own, they’ve come together to forge original music on a base of hard driving funk, jazz harmony, and Afro-Caribbean rhythms. They draw inspiration from bands such as Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters, Irakere, The Meters, Fela Kuti, Weather Report, as well as the wealth of folkloric music from Cuba and Puerto Rico. Most of all, Machina Sol is a band of four friends in pursuit of new music that works for the mind, the feet and the soul.
