About Machismo

"Effortlessly blending an explosive punk energy with a pop sensibility, Machismo's uplifting songs are as sharp as a knife and as tight as a proverbial gnat's behind" - Evening Echo (Feb 09)

Machismo are a Cork based band who are just beginning to make a name for themselves in Ireland's thriving music scene. The band was set up in September of 2006 and since then they have managed to craft together a unique ear-opening brand of music. The band's mix of unique talents, brought by each member of the group is something to be admired.

2008 was a big year for Machismo, winning the CIT Battle of the Bands (April 08), qualifying for the UCC Battle of the Bands Final (Oct 08) and perhaps more impressively qualifying for the National Finals of the Blastbeat / Sunday World LA or Busk competition in The Village in Dublin. (Sept 08)

Machismo recorded their debut EP "The Swell" in Data Recording Studios, Kerry through September and October 2008. They released it to a packed house on the 29th January in The Pavilion, Cork City and have since secured and played a support slot to a sold out crowd with "The Blizzards" in The Foundry in Carlow.

The first track on the EP - "Don't Free Your Ego" reached number 4 in the weekly download charts on download.ie and has received airplay on Ireland's Today FM and more locally on Cork's RedFM and 96FM.
