Formed after its three members recovered their breath from being sacked with a cease-and-desist letter from the power utility bearing the name of their previous band, Ontario Power Generation, Mackenzie King searched high and low for a name that rocked. Just as the band formerly known as OPG waited months before its first gig, Mackenzie King took its time so it could find just the right name. Now, monikered, the band is ready to get down to business and blast some eardrums.
Drawing from classic sounds like Led Zeppelin, early Rush, Yes, Iron Maiden, through bands like Queen and Soundgarden up to contemporary acts like Queens of the Stone Age and the Mars Volta, Mackenzie King is a straight-up power-trio. Emphasizing the strength of their live sound, Mackenzie King finds itself inching away from the math rock which defined the old OPG sound and closer to an aggressive hard rock sound in the vein of Toronto-spawned bands Danko Jones and The Illuminati.

Als Rahmenprogramm gibt's Bar, Festzelt, Chill Out Zone mit Hängematten und Pool, nachmittags Vorführungen (Kampfsport-Choreographien und sowas) und abends dann 7 Bands auf 2 Bühnen); alles (außer Pool vermutlich) überdacht. Ort: Gartenanlage Hirblinger Straße (Straba 4 oder 2 bis eine nach Wertachbrücke fahren und dann Richtung Holzweg/Bärenkeller laufen oder mit Linie 21 direkt hinfahren). Name des Festivals: DÜVSTOCK.

That was a great set at The Boat. Following in the footsteps of that classic rock spirit, this power-trio gives a nod to 70’s nihilism in all it’s air-guitar glory. A brash-chugging sound, loud, raucous guitar bursts that celebrate Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, straddling heavy power-chords and tie-dyed psychedelic jams, crossing through bit’s of Soundgarden in between. Really goes to show you that air-punching hard rock still has it’s place.
