The Mid-Atlantic College Radio Conference (MACRoCk) is the annual celebration of college radio and the independent music community perpetuated by student volunteers at WXJM (the Harrisonburg college radio station) and local residents. MACRoCk aims to create a support network amongst college radio, the independent artists and labels for whom college radio exists, and all other aspects of the independent scene. Workshops, panels, a label exposition, and band showcases stimulate MACRoCk-ers to express ideas, experiences, and support that will encourage progress amongst college radio and the independent music movement. MACRoCk exists through the help of grass-roots businesses that believe in college and non-profit radio, proving that independent music lives without corporate influence. MACRoCk survives with open communication and positive action, and we hope all will further the effort to create a support network amongst all aspects of the independent music community both at MACRoCk and at home.
Since the conception of MACRoCk in 1997, the number of bands and people in attendance has grown immensely. People from all over the nation attend. All of this takes place on an extremely limited budget and without any profit. Every penny we make goes to the preparation costs and to the bands. The committee members and staff put countless unpaid hours into planning this event, simply because we think it's worth it. This year will be our 11th year and we are here to stay.
