    MaDCaP 的興趣
一般MaDCaP was developed in order to provide graduate student parents with a space to discuss issues important to them and to share resources with one another. Members will be able to discuss issues related to health, nutrition, education, insurance, and other parental concerns. They will also be given the opportunity to discuss matters related to graduate school, such as writing seminar papers and conference presentations, as well as preparing articles for publication. In order to foster a communal environment, members will be able to form play dates, plan family outings, and parents-only gatherings. Sharing resources will also be a vital part of the program. A child care sharing service will be implemented to allow members to attend meetings, conferences, job interviews, and other events that they may not otherwise be able to attend, especially in the evenings and on weekends when most child care centers are closed. Members will also be encouraged to share information about housing, child care, health care, insurance, and other matters important to them and their families. In addition to improving the quality of life for existing graduate student parents, MaDCaP would inevitably enhance the recruitment of this demographic. As parents are exploring options for advanced study, their familial obligations are most often their top priority. For most traditional students, a graduate degree can take between 5-8 years to complete. This average may be even higher for graduate student parents. It is my belief that a communal environment and University support is essential for timely degree progress, and MaDCaP is designed to address this matter by helping graduate student parents balance their roles as parents and graduate students more effectively. MaDCaP will also help to prepare its members for life after graduate school. Career pressures and the job market can be especially taxing for graduate student parents, and MaDCaP will address these issues by holding job workshops that will involve preparing curriculum vitas and conducting mock interviews and job talks. In this way, the program is also designed to enhance the retention of graduate student parents by providing them with the opportunity to manage their academic, professional, and personal lives in a more efficient manner.

   MaDCaP 的自我介紹
關於我:
The Mommies & Daddies Collective at Purdue (MaDCaP) will function as a support group where important issues can be discussed and resources can be shared in order to improve the quality of life for graduate student parents at Purdue University. When emails were distributed through the Black Graduate Association at Purdue last spring, a number of individuals expressed an interest in the idea of forming a network of graduate student parents. Nakia Collin, a Sociology and Anthropology student and mother of a 3-year-old son, wrote, “I think this is an excellent idea. It is so hard to find parents in these programs, and I think it is necessary that we find and connect with one another.” Brandy Young-Gqamana, a student in Analytical Chemistry also responded by writing, “If [MaDCaP] is some sort of support/social interaction for people that are graduating/working and trying to raise kids, I’m all for it.” With the support of the Bilsland Strategic Initiatives Fellowship, MaDCaP can begin to address these objectives by creating and fostering a network of graduate student parents that helps them provide academic, professional, and personal support for one another.
