Influences
Music we listen to: The music of the world.
From far and wide.
Many Brazilian influences, of course: Joyce, Tom, Caetano, Djavan, Alberto Farah, Marcio Bahia, Itiberi Orquestra Familia, Durval Pereira, (some teachers, some muses).
We also support and listen to local bands - our friends and musical family. Afro Dizzi Act, Golden Sound & The Outifit, Shannon Marshall, Band of Frequencies, Saruzu, Shenzo's Stunt Orchestra, PtyLtd....
There are so many wonderful, talented creators of music in our neighborhood. We are blessed to know and work with so many of them.
August '09 'BOM FAZER' wins WORLD MUSIC SONG OF THE YEAR AT THE QSONG AWARDS!! Thank You Everybody!! The band is thrilled and honoured to receive this award.
CASA DA BOA VIDA - we have lift off!! Our brand new album was launched in May at a huge release party at the Judith Wright Centre for Contemporary Arts as part of the Valley Jazz Festival. Thank you so much to all the wonderful fans, families and friends who made it such a successful, beautiful night.
TVFMC is inspired by the music of Brazil. No surprise there! Anje & Kym fell in love whilst accompanied by a soundtrack of Jorge Ben, Gilberto Gil, Joyce, Jobim, Caetano, etc. The music was cemented in their hearts and minds forever, and in the ensuing years they they have gathered about them an intuitive collective of musicians who love to play this music with them. For 11 years, they have recorded, performed and headlined at festivals and venues all over Australia, and last year played in Rio de Janeiro and Niteroi. In 2008 they supported Brazilian supergroup OLODUM for their show in Brisbane & will soon warm the crowd for the astonishing and legendary Aterciopelados on the gorgeous Concert Hall stage.
In August 08 Kym and Anje returned to Rio for three months, joined for some weeks by their bassist Owen Newcomb & drummer Mark Henman. This period of intensive study and creative development saw the creation of new material for the next album. The group performed at the hottest new venue in Rio, TribOz (Rua Conde de Lages, Lapa), and in Sao Dom Dom, Niteroi with the likes of brilliant guitarist Dino Rangel, and the great Brazilian drummer Marcio Bahia (Hermeto Pascoal, Hamilton de Holanda). They were joined by guitarist Bernardo Ramos (Itibere Orquestra Familia) for their shows, and assisted financially in this venture by Arts Queensland.
With inspiration & the pulse of Brazil beating in their hearts, the group took the bones of some new songs, thrashed out in jams in a studio behind Maracatu Brasil in Laranjeiras, and fattened them out with some home-cooked Brisbane grooves & sensibilities. Theirs is a stand-alone sound, and while steeped in Brazilian influences, the band still winds their own interpretations and ideas through the music for a truly Oz|Brazilian mix.
The band has three previous releases, 2002's self-titled ep, 2005's debut full-length album 'Tranquilo', available on iTunes, and '07's e.p. 'Sabor'. With the release of 'Casa da Boa Vida', the group cement their place as one of Australia's finest exponents of Brazilian influenced music, rarely played with replication, and always played with joy, passion & reverance.
