Since 2001 San Francisco’s Madelia have evolved from their dreamy origins into an amalgam of angular dance rhythms, shoegaze and post-whatever that Filter Magazine Online deems ‘Dark Sonic Fuck Rock,’ and The Owl Mag calls: “a dreamy concoction of raw energy, a gloom-drenched sound, deliciously edgy percussion and pure punk sensibility.”
Including their initial 2002 release, the band has a total of three self-produced EPs and one full length album under their belt. Their 2004 release, ‘Everyday Underneath’ received radio play on LIVE 105 FM for the song ‘The Compliment’ and praise from West Coast Performer: “Madelia has offered a distinct, symmetric, and utterly gorgeous landscape for the listener... if ‘Everyday Underneath’ is to a future offering, we can expect this quintet to be the next big buzz band.”
In 2006 Madelia released their debut full-length album, which earned critical acclaim from the likes of the SF Bay Guardian, West Coast Performer, Aquarius Records and The Owl Mag, who remarks, “Enter Madelia: a young San Francisco ?ve-piece willing to save our souls—and ears.” Madelia‘s single, “Wither,” received airplay on LIVE 105’s ‘Soundcheck’ and was a featured song on Aaron Axelsen’s ‘Home Grown Thursday’.

“Their debut—a concoction of fuzzy guitar, heavy drums, shimmering distortion, and soft keyboards—works well with Bryan Bindloss’s hypnotic voice, which can suddenly go from the sound of an abrasive punkster to that of a purring kitten.”
—SF Bay Guardian
“‘Wither’ as well as ‘Departures’ are clear examples of Madelia’s curious sound: a mastery of dynamics and darkly seductive vocals... each track plays as a magnetic, deeply affecting vignette, and nowhere is this magnetism more apparent than in the young lust of ‘Skin’: creepy, sexy, splendid... Madelia is truly a breath of fresh air on the airwaves.”
—The Owl Mag
“Each of the nine songs are ambitiously composed with layers of guitars and synths, but the de?ning elements that really lock things in are the ornate piano embellishments.... Quite an impressive cd debut!”
—Aquarius Records
“’Wither’ further capitalizes on the band’s ability to orchestrate a dreamy sound reminiscent of bedtime music for children and then rip away the innocence and replace it with melancholy and slight rage through their lyrics.”
—West Coast Performer
