   About Mad Mad Linguistic Universe

The MMLU met while terrorizing the Spanish countryside. Recently, they've decided to settle down, study Southern American English and educate the public about the "linguistic facts of life," so to speak. Hang 'round, because loads more is in store!

Are you a language maven? Are you a part of the language police? Do you insist on enforcing a standard english on all english speakers? Or maybe you are the exact opposite! Take our quiz and find out!

Oh, you were actually seriously keeping statistic on what people think is the "best" language? In that case, it's Kamakawi. Hands down.

Oh, dude, I just saw the reply comment to my comment. You thought I was serious?! No, no! There are those who do take UG seriously, but I am definitely not one of them. I mean, come on! Even a UGist wouldn't say that Chomsky discovered language in 1966. ;p The joke was that, if you take Chomskyan linguistics seriously, it makes it look like either like language at deep structure (or D structure) is a lot like English (remember: Chomsky claimed that you could discover UG principles by examining any language, which is why Chomskyan linguists only looked at English), or a lot like Turkish, the "perfect" head-final, left-branching language (though modern day, spoken Turkish ain't so "perfect" anymore...).

So, to sum up: That was a joke. Satire, if you will. Though I suppose there are some that might say the same seriously...
