As for what gets our pink bits all tingly: Independent film-making - Live music - Good times - Informed conversations - Finding the next Rita Hayworth in a dingy bar - Naked women - All manner of both immoral and scandalous activities..
Music
The Mad Ones have featured the music of The Malamondos, Little Mascara, Diviner, and Easybake in their films. We seek talented musicians from all genres who would like to have their fine musical selections immortalized in a Mad Ones production. Contact us if interested. No EMO bands who use IPODS to make drum sounds or spend any amount of time crying on their own shoelaces, however, as you are likely to be impaled upon a giant sword by our manic mastermind, the reclusive Max Diablo.
Jack Kerouac, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Allen Ginsburg, Charles Bukowski, Thomas Buterin, J.K. Rowling, Thom Yorke, John Bonham, Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, John Turturro, Harold Wade, and OTHERS..
The cinematic roots for MAD ONES FILMS took hold during the 2006 Greensboro 48 Hour Film Project. After a frantic weekend of schedule wrangling and hair-pulling, a last minute change in plans propelled the MAD ONES to the finish line with a copy of "Z-Day" in hand. After winning an Honourable Mention award for Best Screenwriting, the MAD ONES have spent the past three years adding a smart aleck voice along with an energetic and charmingly askew view of the world to Greensboro, NC's burgeoning independent film community.
Featuring Jaysen Buterin as Creative Director/Head Writer, with J. Evan Wade and Jennie Prince serving as Executive Producers, MAD ONES FILMS soon gained the support and titillating technical talents of Will Huneycutt, Ken Randall, Andy Kahn, Jesse Knight, Money & Mikey, Micah Moore & Blake Faucette.
Despite the MAD ONES' love for the irreverent and the ignoble, there is a distinct respect for the literary canon in Jaysen Buterin's work. With references to Pablo Neruda, Oscar Wilde, John Milton and Jack Kerouac dotting his screenplays, there is no doubt that intellectual intercourse, as glimpsed thru the steamy lens of Rock & Roll, is the glue that ties all of his films together.
MAD ONES FILMS have been featured as media/film guests at ZombieCon, ConCarolinas, and MonsterCon, and have received write-ups in publications such as Yes Weekly, Relish, Go Triad!, and The Greensboro News & Record. In addition, our films have played on the convention and festival circuits, as well as headlining our own screenings.
MAD ONES FILMS prides itself on delivering polished films and offering a quality product that often far surpasses the budget we have to spend due to the talents, dedication, and drive of all its respective members. Their stories cover a wide variety of topics, ranging from the hilarious well-meaning antics of Ben Jones in “Z-Day” and the “Zombie Service Announcement” Series, to the brooding psychotic bloodshed evident in the underground cult hit, “The Devil’s Tramping Ground."
“Booze, Bullets, & Hot Pink Jesus” is an action-packed indie adventure, while “Behind the Mistletoe” is a hilarious docudramatic romp through America's favourite holiday. “Flipper Stripper Vixens at the Inferno A-Go-Go” is a gritty homage to the Grindhouse days of yesteryear,
depicting the fate of three underwater predatory, pole-dancing princesses and represents MAD ONES FILMS' entrance into the realm of High Definition Photography.
MAD ONES FILMS have exploded into 2009 by going into production on a short film trilogy inspired by their 2007 48 Hour Film Project (see the video clip below). “The Gospel According to Booze, Bullets, & Hot Pink Jesus” will be a life and death love story of revenge, lust, and faith. With this project the MAD ONES have formulated an ambitious vision that will consist of three different 20-25-minute tales that illustrate the meandering and madcap adventures of everyone's favourite Hot Pink Deity.
A central MAD ONES FILMS website has gone live, and you can purchase a copy of our DVD there. We are working to embellish the site with nifty clips, bios on MAD ONES FILMS players, more pictures and project information. In the meantime, stay tuned to our myspace site for project details, screening information, pictures, and clips from MAD ONES FILMS.
