Born in Martinez, CA. Monica started writing songs at the age of five. She has a collection of over 1,000 songs and continuously writes new material on a daily basis. Her most recent song “Whisper” has made a splash on you tube and is the 1 song on Congress Hotel with over 1 million downloads to date. The raw heart felt lyrics and the gripping acoustic melody have touched thousands across the country and many fans have felt compelled to put their own version of “Whisper” up for all to see. Ernie Halter is now one of the most downloaded artists on my space and is currently on tour.
In the early 90’s Monica was a known Hip Hop dancer and performer in the LA area and found herself choreographing and writing songs for several R & B groups. When she realized that some of the groups wouldn’t show up on time to the recording studio she started recording the songs herself and a month later she ended up writing her own album. Armed with 14 songs, a music video she financed, wrote and directed herself, along with her bio, two weeks later she found herself in front of Marc Benesch at Interscope records. Peter Lopez was then called in to manage and represent her and the record deal was on the table for a brief moment. However; Interscope Records six months previous had decided to go in another direction steering away from the Pop genre and into Gangster Rap. Interscope had just let go of all their pop acts and were on the fence about signing another one. After months of talks the deal with Monica never got signed. An unknown rapper did by the name of Tupac Shakar. Tupac changed both music and history and that was the end of Monica’s recording career but jump started her songwriting career.
Since then she has written for and worked with many artists and producers such as Sarah Martin, Ernie Halter, Justin Young, Bamboo, Phanom, Timbaland and Missy Elliot. She has made a name for herself in the LA area and is known to be an incredibly talented, passionate, versatile writer. Her unique style of writing is one to be heard. “I write on a daily basis. I don’t know any other way to live. It is just who I am.” Many have called her the next Diane Warren as she write R & B, Folk, Pop to Country. Many have also compared her to her Idol Prince. Prince has heard her music and was quoted as saying “She writes a lot like I do.” Ernie Halter has been quoted “I have never met anyone with as much passion for music and lyrics as Monica.” Monica was featured as the only song writer on Music Plus Tv and is destined to be heard world wide.
