Influences
Mad Serenade is, in a word – unique. We have been influenced by the hard-edged sound of the nineties, the progressive songwriting of the seventies, and everything in between resulting in a brand of original music that is catchy, driving, melodic rock with a modern edge. The main focus of Mad Serenade is to simply write great original songs that capture the listener. That is what the Beatles did and why they are one of our biggest influences. We’re also turned on by the likes of Zepplin, Rush, Metallica, and the Police.
The band is fronted by Dave Cugno’s powerful vocals and energetic guitar playing. Dave, an accomplished drummer and songwriter, brings the perfect balance of musician and entertainer. Dave is complimented by Jim Pippis on bass. His technical ability combined with his sense of melody and groove is reminiscent of such great bass players as John Paul Jones. In addition to playing bass, Jim is a songwriter. His confidence and ability round out the Mad Serenade sound making it undeniably contagious. Joanna Justice completes the trio with her harmonizing vocals and driving percussion. Her sense of timing and musicality enables her to sync into the bass lines creating a deep-rooted groove that keeps the music driving and thunderous.
Mad Serenade was born out of the creative genius of Dave Cugno and Jim Pippis. Dave, a native Californian, moved to the Philadelphia area in search of something new and fresh. He found that in Jim. Together they penned all of the Mad Serenade songs, bringing out the best in each other and in the songs. In the studio Dave cut all of the guitar tracks and drums with Jim holding down the bass. Once the record was complete all they needed was a third player to bring the music to the people in a live setting. It was not until Joanna joined the band that the right mix of chemistry occurred to allow this band to reach its potential. Mad Serenade’s members have gained a wealth of experience, individually, playing in many clubs throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. This experience translates into a solid, fiery Mad Serenade show, which everyone should experience.
We are currently based just outside Philadelphia and we hope to see you soon.
