The “Space Chronic” EP was the biggest selling record on mothership last year and for good
reason. Maetrik has an incredible knack for innovative and original sound design. He is also able
to package these sounds inside great arrangements and very DJ friendly beats. This is what
really separates his records from the rest of the “sound design” experts.
“Show Me” is the perfect example of Maetrik’s amazing talents. After several minutes of a super
funky techno groove (2 thing that’s don’t usually go together) we find ourselves at the drop. And
this drop is one of the best we’ve ever heard. It sounds like an angry wasp is flying full speed
through the inside of your brain. The riff will melt your mind.
“Simpleman” on the other side is a great example of Maetrik’s versatility. You might be
expecting a hardcore techno bit but instead we hear a very groovy, almost reserved jazz techno
fusion joint, but still with the heavy beats to keep it real for the clubs.

Eric Estornel, under the names MAETRIK, MARIEL ITO, MACEO PLEX, and simply ESTORNEL - has been contributing to his musical world around him since 1993. Always searching for the future of electronic dance, Eric has never let himself be confined by the rules of styles or genres as he makes his way through such a political and fickle industry.
As a Cuban American, Eric has always been around music. His father was a salsa musician and enthusiast, and at a very early age Eric became fascinated with musical composition and began experimenting with different acoustic and electronic instruments. In 1991 at the age of 14 Eric discovered electronic music from a local radio show. Quickly Eric grew infatuated with the electronic sounds and intricate percussion and grew more and more fascinated with the Dj culture and Production side of the industry. By 1993 Eric was experimenting with mixxing music of many styles and quickly became a major vinyl junkie and techno enthusiast with a broad knowledge and love for all forms of electronic music, not just techno.
By 1995 Eric was a known and respected young local DJ , when he really focused on his talents in his production. Collecting and toying with different cheap synthesizers and drum machines and emulating his idols from Aphex Twin to Maurizio. And by 96 he was already developing his unique blend of techno and electro. Fast foward to present day, Eric with all of his different sudonyms has released a very large catalog of singles and albums on labels like Mothership, Dumb Unit, Resopal, Sender, Treibstoff, Modern Love, Morris Audio, AI, Immigrant, Sub Static, Scsi Av, Onitor, etc... etc...

Hello Eric, I was at the show @ the Watergate in Berlin yesterday.... I think you might perhaps remember me! :D I was the silly geek giving you compliments on how talented you are and gave you a high five when I had to leave around 6 or 7 am. Like I said, I'm a huge fan of yours, been listening to your music for a couple of years now and never have I found a DJ that even comes close to your level. Simply put - Your stuff is the shit.
Please, please, please, Meatrik come to Berlin more often! It was such a pleasure meeting you, I hope to see/ talk you again soon and for more awesome tracks to come! Take care - Audrey
just beatported myself a copy of "Bitch." Good shit man, classic Maetrik sound. I'm gonna drop that nastiness at Avalon LA this Saturday and watch people lose their minds.
After a more than deserved holidays, Overflow Records is back on track with the sixth reference, coming straight from one of the biggest names when it comes about Techno: Mr. Fanon Flowers, the raising star from Kalamazoo, MI, a place between two cities that marked the history of electronic music (Detroit & Chicago) it’s our next artist.
Producing techno since 1992, with a original style mixing the soul of house music with the syncopated rhythms of techno, creator of one of the best labels in techno like Mechanism Industries, Fanon Flowers is for sure one of the few that continues the traces of the original school.
The man just started a new label called Studio Sound, showing some jack trax in the Acid Kush EP.
With “Blue Dreams” we’re going to find a lot of that. Pure of that Chicago sound on the first two tracks that gives the name to the release, with a neat progression of layers, a journey to those days.
The third cut named “Stoney Island” it’s pure minimalistic techno track, where the dephts and darkness are merged together into this hypnotic rhythmics, almost like a tribal ritual.
