While most 18 year olds are putting the final touches on their college applications, Andrew "DJ M.A.F." Like is putting the final touches on his latest mixtape set for a release on Valentines Day. Despite his age, M.A.F. has been able to buff his resume with gigs and musical releases that most DJs only dream of. M.A.F. has played sold out shows in not only the DC metropolitan area but also overseas at some of London's most prestigious clubs. "My time in London taught me how to rock a party, and not just with hip-hop because most clubs there don't really cater to hip-hop audience." Although an admitted hip-hop fanatic, M.A.F. is not afraid to cross genre boundaries as exemplified in his past two solo release, Party in a Box and more notably, This is Hipster-Hop. "The response was crazy, unexpected to say the least. I was just having fun but people really seemed to like the whole Hip-House thing I was experimenting with." His newest project, Ladies Love M.A.F., follows suit, with neck snapping drum tracks, teeth rattling bass lines and samples from some of today's hottest club hits it's more music than mash-ups. So what's next for a young DJ with an insatiable appetite for music and the industry, "I've actually got a communications class in like an hour so we're going to have to cut this short."
"There’s also a new unofficial Wale mixtape, The Beast of the Beltway, in circulation, compiled by London-via-NoVa mash-up artist DJ Maf and featuring rare/unreleased Wale cuts and some truly absurd mash-ups. We’ll focus on the mashes then, as DJ Maf has chosen some pretty flawless material to work with. First, there’s “Dangerous Girls”, which takes the rap from Wale’s “Good Girls” and transposes it over a slowed-down version of Danger’s “11h30”. But the real jam is “W.A.L.E.F.R.I.E.N.D.S.”, which follows in the footsteps of Wale’s “D.A.N.C.E.” bootleg, combining “Ice Cream Girl” with – what else? – “We Are Your Friends” with phenomenal results." - Goodweatherforairstrikes.com 4/4/08
"...here is a funk fuel-injected remix by DJ MAF which mashes up Justice’s remix of Simian Mobile Disco’s “We Are Your Friends” with Wale’s Ice Cream Girl." - Knowxone.com 5/26/08
"DJ M.A.F. hit me up today to tell me about this mash up. Little did he know I’d heard it months ago. Not sure why I didn’t post it but this song almost made the mixtape, it just ended up not fitting sonically with the rest of the project." - Daniel Weisman, elitaste.com 5/24/08
"...two of the tracks are mash-ups by DJ M.A.F that are gems. I love Justice, their cd The Cross is just nuts. So when I ran across this track called "W.A.L.E.F.R.I.E.N.D.S." that had "Never Be Alone" mashed with "Ice Cream Girl" I was too happy. Another track you gotta get is the mash-up with "Good Girls" and Danger. Enjoy!" ill-vibes.blogspot.com 4/13/08
