Believe it or not Friday May 29th is the 2nd birthday of our dope-arse little rave!
Its been a lot of fun. The last 2 years has seen some of the hottest DJs and producers playing genre and era defining sets to a heaving throng of mentalists in a pub in Islington with chandeliers in it. Everyone from Jesse Rose to James Lavelle, Duke Dumont, Jack Beats, Primary 1, Hannah Holland to thecockandbullkid - has given us something well special. Year 3 is going to see Apocalypso move in some exciting new directions but the music policy is going to stay the same. Bloody good.
So for this party we've got some Apocalypso stalwarts from the last 2 years as well as some new faces:
DEKKER & JOHAN are having a pretty good time of it. Since their first ever released remix became a Radio 1 essential new tune and earned them at 10/10 review in iDJ, they have been rather busy in the studio. Over the next 3 or 4 months you are going to be bombarded with bloody Dekker & Johan remixes - for Simian Mobile Disco (Wichita), Little Boots (679), Boy Crisis (B Unique), Cubic Zirconia (The Savant Guard) and Chew Lips (Kitsune). People are saying they are all quite good. Riotous Rockers have already put the 'Boots remix No 1 in their chart for Mixmag, and the tune hasn't even gone to promo yet. As is the way with these things, people from clubs and festivals now want them to play records together, so they have put together a special set consisting of their new material and lot of other great stuff, all mixed together rather briskly. That's what they'll be playing.
We're very excited to have the rather legendary NADIA KSAIBA in the house for the first time, as well as welcoming back the genius that is Matt Waites (of NIGHTMOVES fame), this time in their combined-forces "G&S" guise.
This is what has been said about G&S:
"G&S is a collaboration between two London DJs; Nadia Ksaiba and Matt Waites. They met while playing at many of the same venues and club nights and last year decided to make some records in Matt's studio. The first single 'Show Me The Good Times' is a chunky, bass heavy beast full of live percussion, space echo fx and sparkling electronic flourishes. The track was instantly snapped up by Andy Blake for his Dissident imprint and was subsequently played by Optimo, Disco Bloodbath and 20jazzfunkgreats, as well recieving lots of praise from the often unimpressionable disco beards. They have lots of exciting stuff lined up for 2009 including some exciting collaborations and an appearance from the ever-mysterious Brian Maiden."
We are also welcoming back Apocalypso favourites and all round brilliant DJs ADVENTURES CLOSE TO HOME - who will inevitably smash it as they have done every time they've played for us. Joining them is probably our most exotic guest to date: ZEKE from very cool electronic house collective Soundswell in Costa Rica. Dekker met him and played some parties with him on his travels and was blown away by his skills and his infectious good-time mode d'emploi. This guy always has a smile on his face, and you will do too when you meet him and hear him play. We are honoured to have him all the way over here in our little boozer.
So here's to another 2 years. See you cats on the dancefloor!

APOCALYPSO is a night at
The Old Queen's Head on the last Friday of every month.
It began in March 2007 as a vehicle for Dekker and his friends to play the freshest beats from across the electronic spectrum, taking in nitro-disco, crunk-house, steroidal party glitch-hop and all sorts of other made up genres. Normally the preserve of the London superclubs and trendier than thou Shoreditch joints, Dekker’s plan was to serve up this kind of mayhem-inducing music in the uniquely sophisticated surroundings of the chandelier-clad top room at
The Old Queen's Head in Islington.
Two years in and Apocalypso has seen a roll-call of London’s hottest new acts on the bill, including
Paul Epworth,
Shir Khan,
autoKratz (Kitsuné),
Duke Dumont,
Jack Beats,
MissOddKidd,
Punks Jump Up (Kitsuné),
thecocknbullkid,
Holy Hail,
New Young Pony Club, and many more. The crowd includes an ever-growing army of regulars who love the chance to wig-out to cutting edge dance music without having to drink nasty overpriced drinks out of plastic cups, or queue for the toilet with a broken door. In short there is nowhere else to get this particular blend of Hoxton’s finest music without dealing with, frankly, the squalor.
If you haven't done it yet, check out and join the Apocalypso family on
Facebook too.
Otherwise, come and visit in human form at the physical venue soon!
