Only myself for now--but constantly in search of others to play with. Nothing better than the inspiration and energy of making music with talented people. So the search continues . . .
Influences
My vocal and guitar sound is my own, but debt is owed to singers, writers, and musicians Ella Logan, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Henske, Carolyn Hester, Sylvia Fricker, Pentangle, Ronnie Gilbert, Fred Neill, Tennessee Williams, and most particularly to Marc Weiss.
Sounds Like
"...she has a good, very interesting, unique sound which I was quite captivated by. Very lyrical, good sense of harmony, good pitch, and excellent vocal communication."
My primary instrument is my voice, and my guitar embellishes, accompanies, and decorates it. My sound and style are my own. Exposure to music and vocal styles of all types, ranging from standards to jazz to folk/traditional to blues, and to the music of Great Britain, the Appalachian Mountains of Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina, have influenced my sound and led me to describe my music as "eclectic acoustic." I have opened for Christine Lavin and Dave Cousins and performed in Showcases and the Open Mic Finals at the Towne Crier Cafe in Pawling, NY, and appeared in venues in the Hudson Valley and Southwestern CT. I perform a good mix of songs, including my own compositions, covers, and traditional music. I like to tell the stories of the traditional songs I sing and might focus on the song's provenance, themes, imagery, history, depiction of characters, etc. Listeners tell me that they enjoy learning about this traditional music. With regard to covers, my philosophy is that a great deal of beautiful and worthy music has been written; if it is never performed, it will be lost. I would hate to think that the only music deemed worthy to listen or to perform was contemporary, original music. As a performing artist, I feel it is a responsibility to be sure that art survives and transcends its time and place.
