Review of MAGHRIBIBEAT's live performance at SolFest 2009...
Maghribibeat were the outstanding act of the 'Dogs in Space' lineup at Solfest this year. Their combination of authentically performed ‘Gnawa’ chants, super-tight percussion and driving guitar make them one of the hottest new acts to come to my attention in years!
Truly ‘acoustically-driven trance music’, they had the whole tent jumping! I can’t imagine this band doing anything less than going down a storm on any festival stage or appropriate live music event and I’ll definitely be booking them again as a headline act at Solfest 2010.

Many thanks to Andy Wells at Hydeaway Studios, who produced/engineered our new album so brilliantly. ALSO many thanks to all the students at CALDERDALE COMMUNITY STUDIO who did a great job of capturing Maghribibeat's sound so well.
MAGHRIBIBEAT feature from Yorkshire Post - May 2008
A CALDER Valley, West Yorkshire, band is heading for fame with the release of its first CD - and air time on national BBC radio. Maghribibeat is a remarkable band which has brought the music of North Africa to Britain.
At the heart of the band is Mohammed Ibn Sina, a long-time Hebden Bridge resident who came to Britain from Morocco and whose family still lives there.
Mohammed - known to his friends as Mo - drew together a group of musicians, to launch the band and re-create the music of Mo's home country, and particularly that associated with his family.
The band re-creates a highly rhythmic and trance-like sound typical of North Africa. Band members have made several visits to Morocco to gather and extend their material, and during one visit performed on Moroccan national television.
The band has a growing following, and in May 2008, released their first CD with a special performance at the Trades Club in Hebden Bridge. The CD, entitled 'Al Sharitte La'Awal', has already attracted national attention. One track, ‘Sabroh Wah Shatilla‘, was played on the Tom Robinson show on BBC Radio 6. Tom Robinson's comment was: "What a cracker!"
YORKSHIRE WORLD MUSIC PROMO VIDEO featuring MAGHRIBIBEAT at the WORLD ON YOUR DOORSTEP festival, Hebden Bridge 2007
MAGHRIBIBEAT - traditional Moroccan Gnawa music meets high energy acoustic driven trance!!! Maghribibeat have proven themselves to be one of the very best live festival bands in the U.K. with stunning performances at SolFest, Wychwood and Stainsby Folk Festivals during 2009.
Be prepared to dance and trance - Maghribibeat play REAL trance made by human beings and not computers!
'Sabroh Wah Shattila', taken from Maghribibeat's debut CD was recently showcased on Tom Robinson's BBC Radio 6, which Tom described as 'What a cracker!'
Review of Maghribibeat's debut CD from Leeds Music Promotions
If you are not familiar with North African music then you are in for a very pleasant surprise with the first CD from Maghribibeat. The Hebden Bridge based band have a following which is increasing rapidly and the release of this seven-track album will swell the numbers even further.
The highly rhythmic and trance-like sound, typical of North Africa is reproduced with stunning effect. The percussionist in everyone will be brought to the fore, as it's impossible not to join in to the rhythms as it becomes almost hypnotic.
The band are becoming favourite performers at festivals around Yorkshire and beyond, and have already been featured on Tom Robinson’s BBC Radio 6 programme.
Review of Maghribibeat at Wychwood Festival 2009
The Doghouse Stage were presenting the Moroccan Gwana music of Maghribibeat. They were in full flow, their acoustic guitars and drumming created a world music feel that had people outside clapping along, and some of those inside dancing, a rather different gem, and a great improvement on many of the acts which preceded them on this stage....
I just wanted to say thank you to all of you leaving a comment and just to tell you that I have not been feeling well the past few days, it’s a flu, so sorry if I haven’t been visiting. Have a nice weekend…
I have decided to dedicate the majority of my time to recording and selling albums. Currently I am on a Cassette kick, and everything that I am self releasing, or releasing on the label I own and operate (Kapustin Yar Records) is now on Tape. Prices will remain as low as possible on said products, because Tapes are for die hard collectors or Cassette enthusiasts only these days. The majority of albums I release on other labels, which is a larger and larger number month by month, are still being released on CD. That being said, I have recently recorded for The Persona Series (albums for individuals, named after their purchaser, with the owner retaining all rights and receiving 2 mini posters for $10 postage paid), which has been very successful. I have recorded a 90 minute Cassette, High Above The Horizon, which is available for $4 postage paid, and The Blood Album Part 2 for $4 postage paid. Please help me to continue pumping out these and other albums by ordering these crazy Tapes today!!!
My new full lengths Die Nibelungen Part 2 - Death of a Hero (Satanica Records, New Zealand), Biomechanical Psychomantium (Mooncult Productions, Australia) and Hashasheen Part 3 (Thorn Laceration Records, United Kingdom) will soon be available, check these labels sites for release dates! Thanks for your time, and sorry for the excessive self promotion :)

I am now
recording for a new set of releases called the "Persona Series". These
cassettes will be commissioned works (not by content, but by payment)
for individuals. If John Smith in London, England wants his own Zebulon
Kosted album, I will make a 45 minute album (one side of a 90 minute
tape), 2 hand drawn mini posters, I will name the album after him
(Zebulon Kosted - John Smith), and the fan will retain all rights to
the recording (for use of any future release, sampling, or broadcasting
rights). One copy of the album will remain in my personal collection,
and one will be sent to the customer, so that the only copy that will
be in circulation will be John Smiths copy! Each album is available for
the ridiculously low price of $10 (not including shipping), and will be
shipped in its completed form no later than 6 weeks from the date of
purchase!!!

"scuzzy Mancunian blues at it's richest and, most intriguing. " the Guardian
"The debut album from Manchester's Denis Jones arrives after the man's grafted and pulled himself all over the place perfecting his working man blues. Comparisons with John Martyn, (arguably) the pioneer of the British blues-folk-rock tradition are not without warrant, while the no fear attitude of Tunng or Psapp in the use of electronics and sequencers makes for a surprising dovetail. Comes in some of the most unique packaging we've ever seen. Fold-out plastic case with fabric inner and individually etched number of only 500.this week's thoughts...Hi,Your attention is needed for a new folk hero in the form of Manchester's Denis Jones. Drawing comparisons with the likes of John Martyn and Tunng this is set to have A&R hounds frothing at the mouth, so get on this early. Oh and the packaging is just wonderful too!!"
Darryl_Piccadilly Records
"There’s something about his willingness to experiment, his bravery and risk-taking that makes him stand slightly aside from the now dissolving world of folktronica, this music is left of centre and quite happily so – if Denis wants to make noise he will do, and if he wants to make your heart weep then that’s okay too. It’s nice to hear a new generation of artists taking on so many different influences at the moment – I guess we can say that’s the power of the internet? Maybe file sharing does have its place in the music scene eh? ‘Humdrum Virtue’ is a mighty promising start from an artist who we should be seeing a lot more from in future…"
