GeneralMusic (lots), gigging, film... wandering about london town... travelling (when I have the money/time)... a good pint in a decent pub... mmm sunday roasts...
Music

Oh just about all sorts of things really, generally "indie" but oh my I hate it when people use that word incorrectly.

At the moment I'm into Architectures In Helsinki, Arcade Fire, Stars, Go! Team, Electrelane, Tom Vek and such like, as well as the forever classics like Beach Boys, Carole King and Leonard Cohen.

NOW I like trillions and trillions of bands, how can I ever know them all? Recent wonders are The Knife, Shout Out Out Out Out, Francois (the wee french man), The Young Knives, Most Serene Republic, New Young Pony Club (dance), Cyndi Lauper and erm erm erm yes Sparklehorse (always been a personal favourite)... People are also trying to get me into calypso, apparently it's the next big thing, going to take the nation by surprise.

Hmm yes, I should probably add more things shouldn't I? To keep up with the "hipsters" out there. Ok other things I am listening to... anthony & the johnsons, the notwist, brinkman, clap your hands say yeah!, islands, wheat, postal service, doves, futureheads, charlie mingus, pavement, her space holiday, hope of the states, new rhodes, future corpses, the hidden messages, the delphian complex, the radio dept., the amazing pilots, bloc party, m83, cat power, magic numbers, masters of the hemisphere, of montreal, s, rory mcvicar, fonda 500, gemma hayes, modest mouse, joseph arthur, lemon jelly, soulwax, the polyphonic spree, the cure, the delgados, hefner, nada surf, delila, coldplay, the webb brothers, mojave 3, erin mckeown, emmy the great, weezer, four tet, rooney, the tyde, eastern lane, i am kloot, flaming lips, six toes, king creosote, devendra banhart, ooberman, blur, good shoes, coco rosie, jeffrey lewis, codex machine, matthew herbert, jamie lidell, antony and the johnsons, kings of convenience, prefuse 73, lcd soundsystem, black nielson... ENOUGH. for now.

Movies

Oh my, lots.

Off the top of my head: Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, Love Liza, High Fidelity, Virgin Suicides, Breakfast At Tiffanys, The Graduate, Coffee & Cigarettes, Amores Perros, Amelie, Being John Malkovich, One Day In Europe, I Heart Huckabees, Everything Is Illuminated, Shirley Valentine, Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Sex But Were Afraid To Ask, Bugsy Malone, Moulin Rouge, Shallow Grave, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid... many many many.

These days obsessed with the work of pedro, as in almodovar.

Television

Oh Spaced is like the best thing ever... I want to be them.

But also futurama, family guy, the mighty boosh, THE SMOKING ROOM (so underrated), the o.c., fantastic daytime tv cheese for eyes like monk, diagnosis murder, columbo, quincy and of course murder she wrote... and other things...

Books

Hmm hmm hmm.... Sophie's World, God Of Small Things, High Fidelity, Catcher In The Rye, Prozac Nation, Death And The Penguin, No. 1 Ladies Detectives Agency, One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest, Chronicles Of Narnia, Three Trapped Tigers, other things I forget now...

And recently discovered the bittersweet genius of Jonathan Safran Foer - Everything Is Illuminated and Incredibly Close & Extremely Loud, check 'em.

Heroes

jessica fletcher, i want to BE her, she is my idol

About me:

hurrah for finishing the evils of chemistry...

just returned from a few months trundling around the world and honestly not wishing i was back on that tropical beach for one second no not me...

now i'm trying to wriggle my way into the world of work hopefully into the giant machine of music fiddling with the messes of press

i like music and gigs and cheese and food and wish i had money for all of these things...

Who I'd like to meet:

john peel.

i know it's impossible (and possibly predictable) but i do.

Richard Formby CDR album limited to 300 copies out now on www.goldenlabrecords.co.uk

£6

To us here at Golden Lab, Richard Formby has always been a sound engineer first, a musician second. Thats just the context in which weve known him, both personally and through the sleeves of the Hood, Quack Quack, Herman Dune, Spectrum, Vibracathedral Orchastra, Bushpilot and countless other records that he has worked on. And this, Richards debut solo album under his own name, is very much a sound engineers album. We see him as something of an Eno for the post-rock generation (just listen to us with our flights of fancy, but its da troooof!). Richard plays the studio like a guitarist, well, plays his guitar. And it astounds us how someone with such a broad impact on experimental music today remains a fringe figure.

Anyone whos ever worked with him knows that hes the great undiscovered genius amongst the current crop of British sound experimentors. Vibracathedral Orchestra, without second thought, refer to him as venerable, in the notes to their Formby produced Tuning to the Rooster LP. But because he has about as much self-importance as a lemming, Richard has never really been anything more than a footnote on an album sleeve. Our hope for his amazing album is that it will begin to change all this quite soon.

Buy your copy now from www.goldenlabrecords.co.uk

So where you gonna head out on Sat then? 42's or south.

Tiger Lounge is good too- but i've only been to see bands or have (my 'cue' button doesn't work?)uiet mid-week drinks there (can't imagine its that busy at night?)

Anyway, let me know your plans will try and fit in around them somehow - drinks on sun is ok
