A Coffeehouse with Beans and Bands. The Bean has been jacking people up on coffee, displaying art from local artists, hosting poets and rock n rolling Springfield for 12 years. The Magic Bean has been a first gig spot and launching pad for many area bands and performers. We have a laid-back, vintage sixty-ish, comfortable & cool, down to earth atmosphere. Our new location was a previous coffeehouse location back 6 years ago. The Bean is located at corner of National and Grand, across from M.S.U., at 940 S. National, Bear's Mall, Suites B & C, in Springfield. We are next to the Greek Corner.

The Bean has presented performances of not only local musicians but bands from all 50 states including Canada as well as Great Britain. Local bands have started out gigging regularly here. To mention only a few includes, Barefoot Revolution, Fern, Flick and performers that include Cindy Wolfe, Jason Poe, Eddie Gomoucio, and Jessel Harry who is now with Western Paradise. We have a history of touring and traveling bands, some of which performed regularly in the coffeehouse before getting sign to major labels. A list that includes The People and Elevator Division.
Our weekly schedule is as follows;
First Sunday Night of each month: Pop Culture Shock Movie Night at 6:00 PM. No Cover.
Wednesday Nights at 9 PM: REGGAE MUSIC! With LUKE & JMMY JAMES of JAM ROOM on our stage.
Thursday Nights at 9:30 PM: OPEN MIC NIGHT,.. our stage is open to all for poetry, musical performance, simple and short one acts, improv, rap, spoken word, jokes, venting, etc.., for almost 13 years we've been doing this, just come in and sign up for Open Mic Night at 9:30 pm. No Cover.
Friday Nights: Local and regional bands; Josiah Mann with Luke & Ern Friday the 8th, Nathanael Mehrens with The Hat feathering Leighton Warren on the 15th. Cover.
Saturday Nights: More local and regional bands; Dececember 9th is an indy band from St. Louis MO. called Crash with acoustic indy folk artists Kevin Ehlers. December 16th; Luke & Ern 10:00 PM. Cover

The Magic Bean is open in the evenings from 5 ish to Late everyday of the week. It is not uncommon to see us at 2-3am serving coffee to a late-night customer, who wants to stay up or is working late. We have been in our new location for only a few months and are considering earlier hours. We welcome all who want to hang out, be cool and have some coffee.

Over the years many magazine and newspaper publications including MSU's Standard and Sprinfield's News Leader have written articles about the Magic Bean Gallery and Coffeehouse. Their articles have had a variety of topics, ranging from our open mics, bands playing the coffeehouse, to moving to new locations, but most have included statements about the eclectic environment or atmosphere we provide. We do have an eclectic clientele of coffee drinkers and performers. We've been a place to meet up with friends or meet new friends or to come in and sit and not be bothered and work or read.
