Sounds Like
Breaking Glass with a hint of absinthe and a little torch song....
With a touch of an evil torch song laced with the alter ego of post-punk, Magick Daggers have created a fierce sound unique to their locale of Portland, Oregon. Formed in 2006 by Jessy Montaigne, (of San Francisco’s Subtonix) and Maximillion Avila (of Get Hustle, Antioch Arrow and Holy Molar), they released their first EP on Manimal Vinyl, recorded by Joshua Hughes of Rabbits/Pleasure Forever in 2007, and recently finished writing their first full length album, Lions of Alchemy in 2008, which is being kept under lock and key until mastering. Their haunting resonance embodies a diabolical merge of 1920s Weimar Cabaret influences contrasted by horror film shrieks and ether static, but still echoes a swampy rock and roll undertone at their more raw edged performances. The Gemini moon does come out, where on a very special night, the entire torch set is performed at the appropriate venue, cooing with come hither dark ballads. Also in past haunts and recordings the Daggers have been joined by Kim E. Namany of NYC on Theramin, the lovely Miss Kaetlin Kennedy of Garland Ray Project/Lost Lockets, and ever darling Kenna Gair on GEM organ.
hey thanks for getting back with me on the merch. I'll have to check it out. Do you guys know if you'll be on the east coast soon/at all? I live in Charleston SC, and there isn't a whole hell of a lot to see here as far as music goes...the last really good show I went to was celebration and the blood brothers, and that was obviously a while back, and in Kentucky.
