A mix of hard rock and heavy metal: this is what Magna Sina’s music sounds like. The Brazillian band, playing rock since 2003, has many different elements to its sound, which is influenced by groups as distinct as Whitesnake and Iron Maiden. But Magna Sina doesn’t want strings – or stereotypes – attached: the band prefers to say they just play rock’n’roll, so that they don’t get stuck in a specific music genre.
Indeed, Magna Sina plays music coming from the heart. The band’s EP, which came out in February 2008, is entitled Victim of yourself. Vocalist Mariana Gouvêa explains the title-song: “It urges people to stand up for themselves instead of thinking they are victims. There are situations in life when we like to think we’re the victims, but in fact we’re not. The song is like a wake-up call to people who think less of themselves”.
The guitar riffs on the EP were brilliantly created and played by Arnaldo Ferradosa and Eduardo Capella. Erick Rhamnusia is the man behind the sharply precise drums. Daniel White is responsible for the powerful bass lines, and Mariana’s strong vocals add the spicy touch to Magna Sina’s rock’n’roll.
Victim of yourself also features “Neverland innocence”, a deliciously ironic and guitar-ridden song about things we fool ourselves with; “Gone down”, a powerful ballad about someone who’s estranged and regrets his deeds; and heavy-metal inspired “All storms”, which tells the listener not to worry because “all storms go away”. The EP is produced by talented and experienced TV music producer Rodolpho Rebuzzi.
