On the 2nd of July 2007, the legendary Magnesia Bank opened its doors for its first buskers night. At a bar that was (and is) very well known for it’s live music, this night was the first of it’s kind, inviting anyone who had a decent tune in them to get up and play. Ever since then, the night has proved to be a great success. Showcasing the some of the finest musical talent in the North East in an atmosphere that is as electric as the music is acoustic!
The night was started by Claire Barr and Denis Fisher and without their talent and enthuisasm it wouldn't still be going strong today. As we all know, open mic nights can come and go, but not this one!
Now run by local Songwriter and general nutjob Liam Fender, the night is as good as ever. So, if you’ve a song to sing, a tune to play or a desire to just get pissed, watch some great performances and help yourself to the free but yummy scran, then get yourself down on a Monday night from 8.30 onwards.
All musicians and singers welcome, we have a full PA and backline with a sound that is constantly complimented. A top of the range ‘nord’ electric piano is also on stage for any keyboard players.
Any instruments welcome (not just guitars) and groups of any size (within reason) are also welcome.
Hope to see you soon!

Alright big man, yeah just recorded a new tune actually, should be up now! Let me know what you think, aye would love to come down and play! All the best old bean Hope alls well with yourself!
Do I always wear the same jumper when I go there? I need to get to topshop(asda) or something! I had a great night on Monday.. recording went fine the next day but it seems to be the beginning of a long, arduous up-hill struggle. We just got 8 guitar tracks layed down. I had to play them from start to finish and if I cocked up a take I still played to the end most times to familiarise myself with the track before starting over. My songs are too long. My fingers were knacked! My songs are too complicated damn it! Are you putting some music up on here?
Hello Maggie Bank, nice venue exellent sound and good tallent all round, Thanks to Claire and Dennis for doing a great job, good luck y'all... Maurice.
