All of the Guys in The band have known each other as friends for many years. AL, Ed and Giseppi started out in a band called Communication back in the 60’s just for fun
As things progressed, Communication went on to support many well known bands from the 60’s including The Searchers, The Nashville Teens, White Plains, to name afew
The band entered a National Melody maker competition in the 70’s and were the winners of the Midlands heat out of no less than 40 midland bands, The band split up in the mid 70’s but still remained good friends.
Lou and Lib had played together in a very successful Rock Harmony Band called Catch 22. The band became very popular in the late 90’s and played to sell out audiences in many venues throughout the Midlands. The bands line up changed several times and Lou left to take a career break. Lib also left the band at about the same time and eventually after a couple of years joined a soul band called ‘Hold Tight’.
MagnettheBand came together in March of 2005 - The idea to form a band came from Malcolm at a New Years Eve party. Giseppi had been playing with a band called The Hobbits for 20 or more years and the band were splitting up due to the vocalist/bass player retiring to live in Spain. Although Al and Ed laughed at the idea at first, the thought gradually developed and finally they decided to give it a go. It was decided that a vocalist/2nd guitarist was required. Giseppi had heard that one of our old mates Lou the vocalist from Catch 22, who had been taking a career break might be available. Contact was made – Lou was really keen to get going again and it turned out that Lib
Archie the keyboard player from Catch 22 was looking for another band — so Magnet the band was born. The band was originally called Catch 22.Com, the name derived from Catch 22 and Communication. Some months after rehearsals had started, Lou came up with the name MagnettheBand which seemed to stick! AL said it suited the band because we were all attractive!!
