Read all about the life of this young talented African Refugee Singer- his Dreams and his Passion. This week in the SELLABAND TRIBUNE: "MAGNUS: HOPE AND HORROR IN AFRICA" and support his foundation for the 'War Children of Africa'.
BIOGRAPHY
MAGNUS was born in 1981 in Yekepa, a village in Nimba County/Liberia, as Magnus G. Wheagar. For many years he wandered
around in the dense West African forest on the run as refugee of war, to escape from extremely crewel and bloody violence
in his homeland Liberia and neighboring Sierra Leone. Presently R&B singer and composer MAGNUS lives in Conakry/Guinea to sing his educative songs on love, aids/HIV and humanity
in general. He can hardly make a living on an average single $1 per day. Still, being a refugee of war in an other Third
World country, MAGNUS desperately needs to "get a break" very soon, and if you want ("if you really really want!"), you
can make his dream come through of becoming a famous international record artist. Just Believe in him and ask your friends
and other Believers at SellaBand to do the same otherwise it remains “smell no taste!” (Liberian verb). Also you can donate
to the MAGNUS CHILDREN FOUNDATION.
Some Liberian Humanitarian NGOs have asked MAGNUS to compose a song that will attract the attention of the International
Community to the desperate situation of millions of young children who are traumatized victims of war in Africa, especially
in Liberia and Sierra Leone. Being a refugee himself since childhood, it was not difficult to accept that challenge. The
result is “SAVE THE CHILDREN”. If the song gets released and records sold, Magnus wants to donate most revenues to local
grass root NGOs who support those Children of War. During his stay in rural forest camps, MAGNUS worked 2 years with the USA ARC (American Refugee Committee) NGO in the
Guinea/Ivory Coast bordertown N'Zerekore in its HIV/aids program as I.E.C. Specialist (Information - education -
Communication), mainly doing sensitization on HIV/aids through music with his Fanclub 'RAP AGAINST aids'.
With the help of some good friends, in September 2006 MAGNUS finished his first Humanitarian Musical Recording in
Freetown/Sierra Leone with 10 tracks entitled 'LIVING IN CRISIS'. The end-mix has to be done in a studio in Conakry/Guinea
or preferable in Europe or in the USA. Magnus hopes to hand out the first copy of his album to the president of Liberia,
Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, the first female president in Africa.
They say a true artist first must suffer severely before he succeeds. In that case MAGNUS should become a tripple
GREAT one as the G in his name says.
