A couple of central Appalachian hill-billys who ended up in froofy Boulder, CO The Magpies aim to startle the yuppies and stymie the hippies, cranking out a diverse blend of hard-driving bluegrass, classic country and honky tonk, contemporary acoustic folk, and bouncy old-time fiddle tunes. The Duo presents fresh arrangements of traditional and contemporary tunes with vocals and pairings of different folk instruments - including fiddle, guitar, mandolin, clawhammer banjo, dobro, and cello. Variety is the key to their high energy shows as they traverse style and tempo, from bluegrass burners to old-time stompers, twangy country blues to honky tonkin two steppers, tear-jerkin waltzes to complex off-beat contemporary acoustic expressions. The Magpies also team up with friends for full stringband events such as squaredances, parties, and in general whenever it's time to kick out the twang!
