   About the Magpies

PRESS FOR EASTERN STANDARD TIME:

“The Magpies' new album is energetic and sublime, and their live show is always mind-blowing.” – LocaList Magazine

”…getting to see them live is an absolutely moving and… a potentially life-changing event… the Magpies have rounded out a more contoured geography of American songscape than most artists could manage in an entire career.” – Arkansas Times

“These boys are that perfect mash of rock, folk and that bit of twang…” – Hardcore-Troubadours.com

The house was broken. Instead of fixing the house, they burnt the house down. Out of the ashes of the Whiskeyhounds a new foundation was laid and that foundation is a launching pad for the MAGPIES.

On any given night the MAGPIES are packing houses in and around Cleveland, Ohio lambasting the crowd with new compositions, fine-tuning them for the road. And the road has taken them through the fog-laden Ozarks to the bowels of New York City rendering crowds speachless.

With the flick of drummer Dave McKean's drum stick they can go from Waitsian (that's Tom Waits) to Appalachian-roots to Motown. Prolific songwriter Roger Hoover often confronts keyboardist Justin Gorski with new song ideas. Along with bassist Chris Yohn the MAGPIES flock to a farmhouse somewhere in Middle-Ohio alone and unassumingly create some of the most haunting & electrifying music being recorded today.

If it was 1971 you'd guys would be touring with The Band. I'm a fellow Clevonite and haven't heard a better Ohio band. Keep up the excellent work. I'll have to catch a show soon.

Check out our new band: About 136 Protest Singers, let me know what y'all think of the acoustic demo...thanks!

The Story of the Magpie Bridge

The 7th & prettiest daughter of the Goddess of Heaven, Zhi Nu, fell in love w/ & married a cowherder named Niu Lang.

The Goddess of Heaven would only allow her celestial daughter to see the common man once a year.

On the 7th night of the 7th moon, Magpies would form a bridge w/ their wings so that Zhi Nu can cross & be w/ her beloved husband.
