About me:
girls layout powered by HOTFreeLayouts.com / MyHotComments
For starters, I've been a part of the MySpace realm for a while now and I'm still not sure what to make of it. I'm accused of being MySpace Anti-Social since I don't log on that much, but really sometimes this "space" can be annoying. As I've been peeking and breezing through page after page, I realize that this space is full of folks wanting their "15 mins."
Everybody is a (rock) star on MySpace.
Needless to say, I'm just a writer trying my best to make some kind of mark in this world. My Space is just a teardrop of my imprint.
I'm a native Washingtonian. Born, raised and still live in the District of Columbia. I'm a freelance journalist, mainly doing gigs for local publications and sometimes dabble on the local political lines. I am the former assistant editor of a regional business magazine. However, I've done a few things for an online publication.
I'm writing my first novel which is based on my blog Blackvelveteen (formerly hosted by the site Diary-X). Though I am working with a Miami based publisher, Shekinah Publishing LLC, I'm taking a slightly different turn with my project.
Synopsis for my book "The Accidential Socialite"
The Accidential Socialite is a narrated journey about self-love and spiritual faith as told by Emerald. Emerald is a 20 something year-old that finds herself battling with several vices that perhaps is routed to a "tainted relationship with her mother. It's through this relationship that Emerald finds herself on the edge of a breakdown. As Emerald begins to confront herself with all of her frustrations and fears, she contemplates her vices as something that isn’t an addiction at all, but more of a substitute for a void that she is trying to fill. When all of her frustrations and fears consume Emerald and her spirit, she seeks spiritual guidance from her pastor, after being absent from a church pew in almost two years. The ultimate challenge comes when Emerald is able to face her fears as she stumbles upon being gradually accepted into the fold of the local political and social scene and begins to love herself.
I had my first child in March '07 and I'm working around my daughter's schedule at the moment. Gotta love being a mommy!!!
I was published within an anthology that will benefit the continuing relief efforts of Hurricane Katrina....
Surfacing: Phenomenal Women on Passion, Politics & Purpose.
Currently the book is only available .. for purchasing. You can purchase the book on Amazon.com or Barnes and Noble.com. The easiest route to purchase of course is through our website, Katrina Anthology - where you can get to Amazon and Barnes and Noble. You can view the bios of the participating authors, read excerpts and of course purchase the book. The cost is $19.95.
Also, I recently received news that I will be included in another anthology titled "What Was I Thinkin?" (St. Martin's Press). More info on this project is forthcoming.
In my past life, I did have a day job other than being a student and a writer. I worked in a Federal government agency for nearly ten years. This job was both a blessing and a curse. I resigned in September 2005 to pursue my dream, my goal, my calling full time. In March 2006 I took on a job with a public relations firm located in the historic Capitol Hill area as a writer/editor. Once I became a mother I decided to take some time off from a full time status.
Other tid bits about me....
I'm more of an observer than talker
I guess I'm somewhat of an introvert
I tend to over and under analyze
I do consider myself a challenge to know..but really it's not rocket science

I literally have a fetish for wearing high heels. The majority of the shoes in my collection are between four and six inches. I only own one pair of tennis shoes/sneakers. I'm highly addicted to chocolate.
I do have a weakness for men with dreads, deep voices and island accents. I'm a sucker for hugs, strawberries, REAL cherries, touches/nibbles on the neck and back....Langston Hughes....and....broccoli in garlic sauce.
Right now, I long to be either be back in Vancouver, Canada or in London, England...chillin with Ben Watts and the rest of his Buzzin Fly crew... I think I'm obessed with their music.

Who I'd like to meet:
I think I would want to meet Kwame Jackson... So he can help me turn my chump change into millions, by helping me invest and start my own publishing company.
