BIOGRAPHY
Maida Vale is based in Utrecht, The Netherlands. The band plays heavy rock with lots of melody and tongue-in-cheek humour. The band members are Kinke Miedema (vocals), Ronald Bleys (guitars), Niels Harkink (bass) and Steven de Sterke (drums).
Maida Vale has a large collection of original material. The first releases, Moscow Delight (2002) and Prefab Bliss (2004), enjoyed many positive reviews ("This band has guts" .... "Interesting band with a clearly distinguishable original sound" .... "The band combine progressive rock, metal and punk in an inimitable manner").
The band has been compared to acts such as Iron Maiden, King Crimson, Tool, Dead can Dance, Depeche Mode, Yes, Rainbow, Frank Zappa, Bad Religion and The Darkness. This by no means implies that the band plays that many different styles. The band has its own sound, which for different people triggers different associations. Some call it underground, others progressive rock. Female singer Kinke Miedema, who joined the band in 2005, has added a new dimension to the Maida Vale sound which has become more powerful and more diverse. This can be heard on the maxi single Neo-Bliss (2005) which contains a remake of 3 Prefab Bliss tracks.
Maida Vales lyrics often cover actual themes and may be full of humour. There are songs about mind-numbing TV addiction, senseless hate between racial groups and the stupefying focus on materialism. But there are also weird love tales, salesmen selling wet dreams, nightmares coming true and an epic on the eternal battle between man and mouse. Lots of variation, as can be found in the music.
