"Male Nurse played to a crowd of about ten, and that was probably for the best: completely wasted and without a supporting band (apparently he "never usually does this"), the dazed and barely conscious kid exclusively played cover songs. The theme song from Family Matters and 'Jenni 867-5309' seemed like crowd favourites, which basically means that some guy in the back yelled "yeah!" after both. It was a sad and hilarious display of intoxicated bravado, punctuated by his own coy self-awarness ("this is...so silly", he noted at one point), but funny or not, it was kind of waste of time."

"Male Nurse is Davey Q, a young indie singer-songwriter gaining attention within the local indie scene for his quirky and funny songs with simple and unlikely themes. His other projects include Quebexico and Million Dollar Marxists. He will not dazzle with over-the-top glamour and flashy style but rather with gentle humility and a beguiling sense of humour."
- PAUL BLACKSHEEP 2007
"The finest hometown performances were, unfortunately, the least seen as John Akpata and Male Nurse delivered intimate performances at the Barney Danson Theatre. Spoken word artist Akpata and Quebexico guitarist Male Nurse delivered exceedingly literate, inspired sets regardless of their ..evident limited musical capacity..."- EXCLAIM MAGAZINE AUGUST 2007
"Listening to My Friends Are All Assholes, I get the feeling that Male Nurse isn't that interested in becoming famous off his music. Or, more precisely, I get the feeling that he's interested in making music for a living, he just wants it to be on his terms.
The first sign is that he's giving his debut EP away for free. Of course, in this day and age, that's more cutting out the middleman than anything else. But there are other signs, too, like the fact that his most accessible songs -- say, the Hayden-esque "I'm A Poo Raid", or the heartbreakingly gorgeous "I Love Matthew Cameron Oxley More Than Pizza Or Sleeping Which Is So Fucking Much" -- have titles that almost ensure they'll turn some people off, while the more traditionally-named tracks (like "I Could Never Be Sweet To You", or "I Prefer Sleeping Alone" -- are more raucous rockers that aren't necessarily as easy to get into. And, of course, there's that album title.
Then again, maybe he's just of the belief/trying to prove the point that things like titles shouldn't matter when you're making music this good. And if that's the case, he's absolutely right. My Friends Are All Assholes is one of the best albums I've heard so far in this (admittedly very young) year, and if there's any justice, people will look past those minor stumbling blocks to check out an artist who really is quite outstanding."-MATTHEW IHEARTMUSIC.NET 2009

The Ottawa Underground has been hosting shows since 2001, and has provided band news online for almost as long.
If you have an upcoming show, new Mp3 or album, or new video/photos, feel free to promote your band news every month or two by posting a brief press release on the Ottawa Underground wall. It will serve as a newsfeed for local bands, so yes I welcome your band news comments on my wall.
