What people are saying about Máirtín...

Mairtin has really impressed me with his passion

Film News...
The Wind That Shakes the Barley...
Máirtín is an accomplished ACTOR and played the character Sean in
Ken Loach's film The Wind That Shakes the Barley, which won
the top award at the Cannes Film Festival for 2006. The trailer for the film is below. Can you spot him in the clip? He is standing right next to Cillian Murphy when they are talking about "spies" (and many places besides). Note that he has no beard, short hair, and the camera adds 10 pounds! The film was released in the USA on March 16th, 2007, and is still playing all over the world.
Óró Sé Do Beatha 'Bhaile...
One of the most stirring scenes in the film is when
Máirtín's character Sean is leading the
Flying Column of Irish freedom fighters towards a
confrontation with British Soldiers while singing the
inspiring song Óró Sé Do Beatha 'Bhaile, which
became the theme song for the entire movie.

On April 7 of 2007, two Cork legends teamed up in Kansas City, Missouri, and started a whirlwind tour of the Midwest and Southern USA. Jimmy Crowley and
Máirtín de Cógáin played 11 concerts in 7 states and travelled 3,093 miles in just 14 days!
In September of 2007, the magic happened again as Jimmy and Máirtín 'Scrambled South' once more on another whirlwind tour!
Then, for a THIRD TIME in less than 12 months, these 2 incredible talents
teamed up yet again for a SPRING 2008 TOUR of the Midwest culminating as
headliners at the 2008 Southern Illinios Irish Festival in
Carbondale, Illinois, which is sponsored by Bryan Kelso Crow, the
host of America's popular Celtic Connections Radio Show
For their second (FALL) tour of 2008 and their FOURTH official tour together, these two legends of Cork brought their magic to the WEST COAST of the United States.
A CD was in the works and by now this amazing collaboration between two of Cork's finest performers had a name...
The first CD to emerge from this historic collaboration was based
on the theme of "Irish Soldiering". The CD contains a "must-have"
collection of the songs and stories of Irishmen fighting for various
causes all over the world, including the American Civil War.

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?
After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...
Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN
Once drove an old sedan, up north, From a place in Sydney to Cairns; Then to Kuranda I went forth, By train, to look without set plans.
I browsed through the trendy market, With fresh fruits of tropical kind; Walked to the creek through lush thicket - Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.
I dined in a scenic cafe; Then, outside, as I wrote for yen, Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey, You go walkabout with your pen.”
Request or question, I don’t know - Assured voices, elderly men. That’s now several years ago, And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.
Hey Mairtin,
You guys were great last night. That was probably the best show I have ever seen at Enoch's. Can't wait 'till October. By the way, be sure to check out my MySpace. I just finished uploading the pictures I took last night. My girlfriend, Lauren, has some video if I'm not mistaken. We'll try to get it up here for you guys soon. Sorry I couldn't make it to the show in the Triskel...I'm up the walls big time!Let me know if you're doing any more around the place.Good to see you down in crosser the last day, I had a good oul night....it's not too often anymore I get to go boozing! Talk to you soon. Murt.
We are made from unusual stock, with hearts of gold and souls of rock, Try to keep up and you'll get quite a shock, just lock up your daughters till morning.
See, things are likely get out of hand, cause we Irish are a rebel band, We belt out ballads for Ireland, for freedom and all of her children.
If you listen closely I'll tell you our plan, It's to bring sexy back to ballads again, We're strong and true Irish gentlemen, attractive to all kinds of ladies.
So all you young people, girls and boys, Every person who's Irish, come make some noise, tell the stories and share the joys, for freedom and all of her children.
I am a bit of a Dubliners fan, Jimi is more of a Clancy's man, we'll pass on their ballads as best we can and a few of our own too God willing.
We're the best of Luke Kelly and Jim Mc Cann, Christy, auld Ronnie Drew and Shane Mc Gowan, and all of those people who died for this land, for freedom and all of her children.
So let's honor those people now dearly departed and finish the job that our ancestors started, bring back together that which is parted, our Island and nation of Ireland.
See, I am a bit of a rebel like you, with the heart and the soul but with brains and brawn too, let's bring home the six to make thirty two, for freedom and all of her children. Murt - Amadáns & Bodhráns
