"Jamaica is where I'm from," Maja Flava blazes out from the last track on his debut Hip Hop Reggae album "Flava of Jamaica" as he embarks on something never done before. Maja Flava takes Hip Hop and Rap music back to its origin when he enters the music scene with an album colored with 14 Hip hop tracks spiced with the "Flava of Jamaica." Growing up in the garrison, not too far from the gully banks in Cassia Park, determined to make a difference, determined to right the wrong of years of living in the Ghetto, determined to takes his family out of poverty and create a new day. From listening to his lyrics in the first release from his album – "Come on" Maja Flava sings about having a party where he describes things he can only dream about. With Happy lyrics and a nice bounce one would never imagine the struggles he endures on a daily basis to produce lyrics with such fun and frenzy.
His interest in music sparked at the tender age of eight and Maja Flava became a permanent fixture on his father's "sound system" Rebel Force as the youngest sidekick (DJ). From such a young age friends and family recalls this kid taking over the microphone and mesmerizing audiences with his wit and clever expressions as he attempted to "Get the Party started Right." He knew what to say to put the crowd in frenzy, and what to play to get the much more mature audiences calling for more. Entertaining was natural for him and when other kids wanted to play in the streets, Maja Flava choose to be with his father as he would practice, and it seemed as if he himself was practicing for what he is now embarking on, with his own music career. At that tender age, Maja Flava used music to express his pain and it brought him pleasure and now that music serves to become the avenue for his Gain.
At the age of 12, while attending Wolmers High School his talent for writing lyrics manifested during frequent freestyle "jam sessions" held under the stairs of the 1st form block with his peers. Unfortunately during this peek in his musical growth his father's sound system was seized by police, so at that time, the only turntables he had were ones that were created in his head and the crafty lyrics that would come from his mouth. Writing crazy metaphors was his deal and now it is sealed!
Flava graduated from High School at 18 and formed the group Juvenile Clan, consisting of three other artists. They performed on many "stage shows" with popular reviews however at the brink of stardom the "Clan" tragically lost a member. The group unfortunately didn't survive this tragedy but as the cycle of life ordains – the rebirth of Maja Flava was destiny.
At age 22, Flava teamed up with his "Ace" producer and family member out of Florida who had recently set up studios in Jamaica "Katalyst Music Group "KMG – this was the well awaited and perfectly timed rocket launch to his limitless career.
It is now three and a half years and the two have stayed true to form already making big impressions on the world stage. Flava made his mark on international connections with producers and artists from America and the United Kingdom and decided to fuse Hip Hop & Reggae for the foreign market, spiced with multi-cultural musical influences. His emphasis is to make people dance and enjoy themselves with some good lyrics. Maja Flava as the name suggest is ready to add major flavor to reggae dancehall hip-hop music internationally and destiny will run its course.
