My name is Maja Remic, I am singer, violinist and arranger.
I was born in Novo mesto ( Slovenia ) on 23. April 1979.
I have been singing and playing violin since my childhood and later continued violin studies at secondary music school and at the Academy for music in Ljubljana.
During my studies I performed many solo concerts, played in different chamber groups ( 1. violin in Kvintesenca Quartet ) and orchestras ( Solisti Piranese, Slovenian Philharmonics ). I've received rewards from both national and international competitions and participated in workshops led by internationally acclaimed violinists.
For my performance of Sibelius Violin concerto with the RTV Slovenian Orchestra in the Slovenian Philharmonics in June 2003 I received the »Prešeren prize for students«.
After finishing my studies I spent three years teaching violin at the primary school working with children aged 6 – 12.
During this time I began further musical studies in jazz at a secondary music school in Ljubljana.
I attended jazz workshops of musicians such as; Barry Harris,
Gwen Hughes, Miles Griffith,..
I was part of a jazz choir with which we recorded two CD's and played many concerts in Slovenia and abroad.
As a member of Crt Remic Quartet I played at the the festivals: Jazzinty, Noc v Stari Ljubljani, and also performed many concerts with the Big Band Nova from Nova Gorica.
I play with different groups: Musicisans Inc., Maja Remic Quartet,
Café au latin.
In the year 2005 I recorded music used for a dance project composed by Bojana Saljic, which was performed in Stara Elektrarna in Ljubljana.
In winter semester 2006 I relocated to Graz – Austria in order to persue my other passion of jazz singing.
I study in the class of american jazz singer and pianist Dena De Rose and am at the moment making an Erasmus Exchange at Hans Eisler Hochschule in Berlin, Germany.
