Formed in the fall of 2006, M.A.J.I., the Murray Avenue Jazz Initiative, is an 8-piece group dedicated to performing narrative jazz music. At the heart, it’s a ensemble of strong improvisers but the end goal is orchestral; we strive for musical contrast and dynamic change rather than just solo after solo. An evening listening to the group will not only include exciting original music by the group’s members but arrangements of music by Jazz greats such as Pat Metheny, Maria Schneider, Sonny Rollins, Benny Golson and others.
