"This was the band that Pierce and I put together after the demise of Turner and Kirwan of Wexford... I'm not sure how you'd describe the music for it mutated through the early 80's: punky new wave spiced by a dash of Irish and a little attitude, with the obligatory cool haircuts and some good melodic songs." -- Larry Kirwan, Green Suede Shoes: An Irish-American Odyssey
"There were a number of different incarnations of the Thinkers. Peter Collins and Thomas Hamlin were the rhythm section of the band for a number of years before Peter left. Peter was a wonderful bass player and quite the character. That version of the Thinkers did a memorable tour of Ireland during the Hunger Strike of '81. Many of the gigs in the North of Ireland were cancelled but we played the Gloria Hunningford Show on BBC TV, after which Peter and Pierce gave one of the funniest interviews - even if it wasn't meant to be. Such was life in the punk/new wave in the early 80's. One hell of a time!" -- Larry Kirwan
"Major Thinkers - "Avenue B." : Wexford, Ireland's Pierce Turner and Larry Kirwan were childhood friends who emigrated to New York City's Lower East Side in the early 80's. Their new environs inspired them to chant "Avenue B! It's the place to be!" over tribal beats - over and over again. Their Music merged their European roots with the urgency of inner city rhythms. They were signed to Epic/Portrait records and released an EP. "Avenue B." was a minor hit but they soon tired of New Wave and went their separate ways, Kirwan to Black 47 and Turner on to a solo career." -- Lost Bands of the New Wave Era
