About me: Make A Difference Day is an annual event of neighbors helping neighbors. In Volusia and Flagler counties, this means a day where over 8,000 volunters work together to complete over 60 projects!
This year's event was October 27th!
About Make A Difference Day
Known as the “national day of doing good” Make A Difference Day is a national effort designed to mobilize citizens in communities across the country in volunteer service—Neighbors helping Neighbors. Sponsored nationally by USA Weekend and the Points of Light Foundation, this is the 17th Annual Make A Difference Day. Thousands of people, young and old, are committed to spending Saturday, October 27th making a difference through service projects in Volusia and Flagler Counties.
These projects are locally engineered by The Volunteer Center of the United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties, which received national recognition for its efforts in 2005 and 2006. This year, over 8,000 Volusia and Flagler County volunteers from the business, faith-based, civic and educational sectors participated in over 60 agency/community projects. Reports confirmed that we were once again the largest such event in Florida.
The Volunteer Center’s efforts are so well received because this is an opportunity for folks who usually do not work together to do so. It is also an opportunity for employees who usually do not work together to do so. And, it is an opportunity for families to demonstrate good family values by participating together in worthy causes.
We will be using MySpace to help recruit new volunteers! We will also use this site to post updated information about this years event and the benefits of volunteering. Be sure to subscribe to the blog to stay up to date!
