Makedon (ma-KA-don) is the main antagonist in the novel. He is the bad boy of Ancient Greece. Having dominated Apollo's Tournament in recent years, Makedon needs only to win the tournament once more to receive a commission from his father to lead the Neapolitan military. He is also slated to wed the most beautiful woman in the known world upon his victorious return, which increases the stakes.
