REVIEWS FOR MAKE ME SHIVER'S DEBUT
ALBUM,
" TOO MUCH TO DREAM "
This is the kind of rock-and-roll
I've been looking for! The haunting and powerful
first track sets the tone with exquisite guitar-work
and Charity's silver-tinged vocals. And the band
always keeps it interesting. "Wicked Ways," a
serious up-beat rocker is followed by the "Soul
of the Sea," a beautiful ballad set in a timeless
mythic otherworld. Not only does Make Me Shiver
truly rock but all the songs are elegantly arranged
and well-written. Charity's lyrics are intelligent,
succinct and honest. "Piss You Off" is one of
the many highlights on this album, a witty and
catchy tune that simply tells it like it is and
the infectious "Riding the Bell" is simultaneously
accessible and mysterious. "Too Much to Dream," was
my number one beach CD this summer and I can't
wait to see what they come out with next.

"I was fortunate enough to get an autographed copy
of [Make Me Shiver's] CD, and let me tell you, it's
fan-****ing-tastic! [Charity] has the sound of Amy
Lee from Evanescense with a bit of Hole mixed in! I
definitely recommend going on line and getting this
CD!

I was trying to figure out where I had heard a vocal
styling like that before and came up with Holly Golightly
([Charity's] voice is similar, but much softer...maybe
more like Yo La Tengo's Georgia Hubley in it's softest
moments)....I love how the production is heavy with
echo. I also really like how the drums sound (no
big time arena polish..very refreshing)....matter
of fact, the lack of studio polish overall gives
it a garage rock feel, which (as everyone knows)
is a sound I'm very big on....It's primal, urgent
and above all else.... real . I was pleasantly surprised
by it as a whole.
It's a solid CD and not to just single out one track
or anything.....but my fave on it is "Love, Love,
Love", which has a heavy Lou Reedish/Velvet Underground
sound to me and the way the male backing vocals on
this track intertwine with the lead I like a lot
as well.
Very nice job MMS.....I look forward to the next
offering.

"Too Much To Dream" is a vivid, rocking trip through
a world emotions, seemingly centered around the theme
of change. From the Fleetwood Mac-esque opener, "Riding
The Bell," to the closing track, "Hush Now," this record
is full of dynamic, musical bliss.

An Amazing Record!
I want to state, very clearly, up front: YOU HAVE
TO OWN THIS RECORD. Not only do the songs on "Too
Much To Dream" have catchy, pop-rock sounds that
instantly ear-worm you, but each of the songs is
crafted so that another layer is uncovered every
time you put it in the CD player. At first, you just
hear the catchiness of the songs, and then, the compositions
start to show hidden things to you, and on a third
listen, you might catch the subtle nuances of a lyrical
turn-of-phrase, a metaphor buried deeply in the words,
a comparison, an analogy, or an allegory to something
old and familiar or something new and almost unknown.
This record really has something for everybody, and
I am so glad that I bought it at their show. It's
a keeper!!!

REVIEWS FOR THE FIRST SINGLE FROM
TOO MUCH TO DREAM
" RIDING THE BELL "
"Riding the Bell" rocks! I'd love to hear more
of your stuff-- I want the CD! ... The voice is
great and perfectly balanced against the lead
guitar ... [the] vocal harmonies behind the lines "make
believe again / make me feel again"... sounds
awesome. Good lyrics too, I know what it's like
to be... "tired of keeping secrets"
Great work!
Matt
The guitar talking behind [the] voice is gorgeous.
It's more like a vocal duet than a guitar and
a chick. You two are bang on together. Those opening
drums, Fleetwood Mac, yep. This went on my playlist.
Very sexy vox. Good tune, listened twice while
typing.
Well, obviously there's nothing wrong with your
voice. You got just a touch of Marianne Faithful
(who?) in there, methinks. As well as the obvious
McVie diction.
Nice song.
You have a very good song and arrangement[...]
