Make Music New York is a new live, free musical celebration across NYC each June 21st.
On that day, public space throughout the five boroughs – sidewalks, parks, community gardens, and more – become impromptu musical stages, dance floors, and social meeting points. Thousands of amateur musicians, in every genre, perform on sidewalks for the biggest crowds of their lives. Professional musicians perform for new audiences, who come out from under their headphones to hear unfamiliar groups risk-free. And everyone is invited to sing along and enjoy the first day of summer.
Last year, the inaugural MMNY included 875 free concerts.
Punk Island is taking on its second year on Governor's Island off of Battery Park in New York City on June 21st, 2009, as a part of Make Music New York! On that day, tons of punk and rock bands-professional and amateur-will take over the island and hold shows on 13 stages throughout it. The ferry that transports fans to and from will even have bands performing all day. If your band is interested and is punk-esque, please friend me and send me a message letting me know.
