About me:
Make/shift magazine creates and documents contemporary feminist culture and action by publishing journalism, critical analysis, and visual and text art. Made by an editorial collective committed to antiracist, transnational, and queer perspectives, make/shift embraces the multiple and shifting identities of feminist communities. We know there’s exciting work being done in various spaces and forms by people seriously and playfully resisting and creating alternatives to systematic oppression. Make/shift exists to represent, participate in, critique, provoke, and inspire more of that good work. http://www.makeshiftmag.com

My interview/reading with LA-Lit, which I recorded in Los Angeles back in October during my book tour, is now available for downloading.

The interview consists of two parts--part A and part B.

In it, I answer questions about my book--Beauty Talk & Monsters--film, popular culture, female loners and solitude, as well as the relationship between film criticism and fiction.

I also read three stories from Beauty Talk & Monsters.

Hope you enjoy it!

We've now had 5 years of lies about 9/11, WMD's, and freedom. The real reasons were oil, profiteering, and fascism. Not just Bush, but the news media, most of congress, and all who remain silent. And now they'll use fear to quash dissent. It's nothing new -- it's been going on for ages. War, poverty, ecocide, arrogant bullying --they're all from greed and fear, which come from ignorance. ♥ But it's not too late -- we can still learn to make peace. Talk with people. Love, Eric

"In Left of Karl Marx, Carole Boyce Davies assess the activism, writing, and legacy of Claudia Jones (1915-1964), a pioneering Afro-Caribbean radical intellectual, dedicated communist and feminist.

Jones is buried in London's Highgate Cemetery, to the left of Karl Marx - a location that Boyce Davies finds fitting given how Jones expanded Marxism-Leninism to incorporate gender and race in her political critique and activism."

Journalists for Mumia Abu-Jamal

Nov 15 2007 10:10 AM

Greetings,

Thanks for adding us. Your support is much appreciated.

What do you think of these newly discovered crime scene photos (viewed at Abu-Jamal-News.com)?

I have been personally contacting every media outlet I could find and still the mainstream media has completely ignored the story. Many independent media outlets have covered it, but the only place that has published the actual photo is the national Black newspaper, The SF Bay View (click here).

This is just the latest episode in a long history of corporate media bias (and arguably racism) towards Mumia and other political prisoners.

In Solidarity,
Hans
