Currently playing with her trio featuring Marilyn Mazur(dr/perc) and Klavs Hovman(b), quintet "Grey To Blue" co-led by the French flute player, Mariane Bitran, and, "Binocular" with the Danish trumpet player, Flemming Agerskov and Italian accordion player, Francesco Cali. Born in Tokyo, she started with classical music on the piano at 4, and violin at 9. Her childhood was spent in Tokyo and Hong Kong. At age 20, she won a scholarship to Berklee College Of Music in Boston, where she stayed for 3 years, absorbing the language og jazz . Since 1990, Hirabayashi has been based in Copenhagen, working with diverse projects, both on the jazz scene and the world music scene. She has given concerts at major festivals and venues in Europe, South Africa, Brazil and Japan. (more info at ..www.makiko.dk..).... Welcome!
Makiko Hirabayashi is a Japanese pianist/composer, based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Currently playing with her trio featuring Marilyn Mazur(dr/perc) and Klavs Hovman(b), quintet "Grey To Blue" co-led by the French flute player, Mariane Bitran, and "Binocular", co-led by the Danish trumpet player, Flemming Agerskov.
Born in Tokyo, she started with classical music on the piano at 4. Her childhood was spent in Tokyo and Hong Kong. At age 20, she won a scholarship to Berklee College Of Music in Boston, where she stayed for 3 years, absorbing the language og jazz . Since 1990, Hirabayashi has been based in Copenhagen, Denmark, working with diverse projects, both on the jazz scene and the world music scene. (more info at www.makiko.dk)
With a broad musical and cultural background, she seeks her own unique voice with influences from classical music, jazz, Far Eastern sounds as well as Nordic folk music. Her latest trio album, "Hide And Seek" won Jazz Audio Disk Award for Best Instrumental Album 2009 and Jazz Melody Award for the title tune, in Jazz Critique Magazine, Japan.

Jeg hørte din musik første gang for ca. 1 år siden. Det viste sig at være din anden CD med trioen.
Jeg var helt solgt.
Så hørte jeg for ca. 2½ md. siden trioens første udgivelse "Makiko".
Jeg kan slet ikke udtrykke hvor lykkelig jeg blev.
Du har simpelthen det fineste lyriske anslag, som nærmest gør Bobo Stenson til en "Klods Hans".
Trioen er genialt sammensat med Marilyn, som vel er indbegrebet af en lyrisk percussionist / trommeslager,
med ører så store som Rundetårn.
Og Klavs Hovman, der har en af de flotteste toner, og iøvrigt spiller fantastisk.
Det er simpelthen Kræs for Intellektet.
Jeg funderer på om der mon er en 3'die CD i ærmet.
Hvis en sådan kommer skal jeg være den første til at troppe op i pladebutikken.
Jeg bliver bare så top-inspireret, og får lyst til at spille mere musik.
Tusind tak for din musik, og for at have accepteret mig som ven her på MySpace.
Skal du på et tidspunkt spille koncert i Århus, enten trio eller solo, vil jeg være meget taknemmelig
hvis du lige smider en besked til mig. Så er vi flere der helt sikkert vil komme og lytte til noget af
