*Name dropping
Lennon/McCartney (song writing feuds), Rilo Kiley (three out of four band members approve), Against Me! (to an unhealthy Gainesville degree), Paul Beribeau (Shaw saw him hanging out in Gainesville and freaked out like a little girl), Pixies (quiet, loud, quiet, awesome), Arctic Monkeys (default because one of their lyrics is in the band's name), Bob fucking Dylan (That's not his real middle name), This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb (they are on the list particularly because news stories about their stickers on bicycles leads to hysterical fits of laughter), Mountain Yellers (their cd was purchased from Wayward on a whim), Violent Femmes (the best acoustic outfit to ever grace this earth), Santogold (three out of four band members would marry her), The Velvet Underground (especially the two or so songs their drummer sang), Iggy Pop (especially the Idiot), Spoonboy (he is awkward like us), Andrew Jackson Jihad (Sean drunkenly hugged Shaw and told him that Monica was "a keeper"), Rosa (as yet another example of Plan-It-X's fine tastes)
And the non-musical influences of road trips, Fran Sucks, inter-band relationships and Jessica the Hippo.

Making Eyes is almost no more ... Fran must be elated
(devamı)
Making Eyes and the Toy Tambourine (often shortened to "Making Eyes" in an attempt to save the environment one CO2 exhaled breath at a time) is originally a duo made up of Shaw and Rachel. The band was recently expanded to include Roy and Monica. Here is a little something about them:
Shaw was the drummer for Sidewalk Fiction until December 2007. It was one of those relationships that petered out. Somewhere in January 2008, he picked up guitar and made a "shitty punk band" (his own words) called Iconicons so he could let off steam and learn his way around the neck. In Making Eyes and the Toy Tambourine, he lends his newly found guitar abilities, singing non-abilities, as well as a reawakened passion for drumming. He is the default writer of profiles for the band -- being a journalism major. Plus, he enjoys writing in the third person.
Rachel sang "We Did It All For Don" (an Against Me! cover) with Iconicons during their house party in March. This sparked collaborative talk between her and Shaw, which manifested itself into Making Eyes and the Toy Tambourine in late April 2008. She keeps Shaw's elementary school impulses, like penning a song called "The Pull Out Method," in check. She contributes a powerful voice, many auxiliary instruments and her general feminine charm to the band. She is considered the band leader/PR representative after losing a match of rock, paper, scissors before playing their first show.
Roy Reid has the same last name as Shaw's step-brothers. He was originally supposed to be in Iconicons, but was drafted into Making Eyes during a beer toss party in late August. He used to eat Krishna lunch with Shaw during the spring of 2008. Roy likes to wear suspenders and in his spare time makes awesome bass parts that blow the band members' minds. He owns an Apple computer, which Making Eyes made some demos with recently.
Monica Matias has taken over the tambourine duties so that Rachel can focus on hitting other things and shaking her hips. Monica has already personalized the tambourine with ribbons that say cute little things like "go team." Quite frankly, Monica joined the band because "she gets what she wants." She met Rachel somewhere in August and they bonded over their sub-par tastes in Rilo Kiley. Combined with Roy's appreciation of Rilo, Shaw is now severely outnumbered in the band. Monica lives in a "little blue crack den" where the band members practice and play terrible impromptu shows. People swarm in and out of her house and curl up in the living room to listen to the music.
Things to expect at a Making Eyes show include: gutted drumset parts, badly choreographed guitar solos, carelessly tossed mallets, littering cables, shimmering glockenspiel and dancing grooves with a star-shaped tambourine.
oh, and...
