The Killing Floor by Lee Child.
Boba Fett Scholastic Books series. I know they are grade school level books, but its an interesting take on my favorite Star Wars character.
SLAM by Nick Hornby. That book makes me glad I wasn't *that* stupid when I was a teenager.
You are Mike Ness, the frontman from Social Distortion. You're a man's man who loves everything manly, like drinking, fighting, tattooes, man-pants, and Johnny Cash. Take this quiz!
JUST WHAT THE HECK IS A 'MAKKAIO' ANYWAYS?!? (asked by Groovy Weather Guy)
Short answer: It’s a modified version of my name, Matthew, in Hawaiian. Long Answer: I visited Oahu, Hawaii, with my then wife and now friend, Melissa, back in the mid ‘90’s. There was a gift shop just outside the hotel and we decided to stop in one day. They had a rack of tourist mugs with the Hawaiian name on one side and English name on the other. That's where I found my name. Matthew is actually Makaio with one ‘K’. But I modified the name with two “K’s” so I could corner the market on my Internet persona. Since then, I’ve used the name for everything from my MySpace profile to email to my web site and instant messaging nicknames.
WHERE DID YOU MEET YOUR WIFE, JULIA HARRISON? (asked by Jungle through the Elite Fleet profile)
Short Answer: I requested we hire her to work with me in the newsroom of WJTN/SE93 in June ’99. The station manager and my co-worker agreed. So we did. Long story: Julia dropped by the newsroom a week or so before she started working with me and introduced herself. Our first impressions: Mine, “Great, nice Winnie the Pooh socks.” Hers, “He didn’t immediately fall in love with me so he must be gay.” A couple years later we were married and are the fun-loving and totally cynical couple you know and love today.
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST DECK? MINE WAS A JIM THEIBAUD FISH TAIL FROM SMA. (asked by Jeff)
Short answer: Lance Mountain Old School P&P 1983.
Long answer: I started skating when I was about eight, which was the summer of ‘80. I found an old Sims Quicksilver board in my cousin’s garage, which he probably got when it was brand new in ’77 or so. Due to moving a lot until I was about 14, I didn’t skate for few years. When I got back into it, I was a big fan of Powell&Peralta and the Bones Brigade. I was the same age as Tony Hawk. Ironically, my first deck was a Lance Mountain because it was the only deck the shop had from the Brigade at the time. I promptly broke it in half within a week doing an acid drop off the deck of a 6’ high half pipe. I sent the broken deck back to P&P and they sent back two free decks – a Tony Hawk and Mike McGill. My pseudo sponsorship with P&P went on like that for about five years.
OTHER THAN SKATING WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO?? (asked by Jungle through the Elite Fleet profile)
Right now, I like to hang out with friends and family and get off my ass and do stuff. The last couple of years, I was a homebody mostly because of work and being around a lot of people all day. Half way through last year I wanted to change that and have been hanging out with my friends, both old and new, a lot more…as you well know. You can see some of my other interests over on the left side of my profile.
ANOTHER QUESTION...WHATEVER HAPPENED TO YOUR ALTER EGO, SAMMY T.? "DAMN PO'PO ALWAYS BE MACKIN' ON ME!" (asked by Groovy Weather Guy)
He be on the down low…the D-L…you know what I be sayin’? After all, my homie, it be an election year, is it not? Fo’ shizzle.
