   About MAKSHOW

MAKSHOW - live and direct!

Killer riffs, double-edged lyrics and a healthy measure of sleaze.

Back in his north London home and exhausted from an endless round of touring, recording and contract negotiation in the USA, prolific singer-songwriter Paul Day hungered for the old times when rock 'n' roll was less about the business end of things and more about playing dirty, sweaty gigs in fleapit venues for love and beer money. Inspired to write again, he started working on a demo to sketch out his latest ideas; the phenomena of celebrity culture, reality television and tabloid-everything would provide a ready supply of raw material.

The sheer quality of the 25 new songs Paul had written convinced his erstwhile bandmates in Britain that time spent away from the 'real world' in cramped, stuffy rehearsal studios would be time well spent (albeit with some breaks to drink beer, visit strip clubs, etc.). A more dance-oriented sound had emerged, whilst the social commentary that had long been a feature of Makshow's output had been given a sardonic-yet-lighthearted twist to match the subject matter of life in New Britain Plc.

Having honed the best of the new material in seclusion for the last few months, Makshow have unleashed the beast that is the latest chapter of their eight year musical odyssey on the Great British public. Expect killer riffs, double-edged lyrics and a little bit of politics, with a healthy measure of sleaze thrown in!

Further info and trivia about Makshow:

  • Paul has written over 1000 songs to date.
  • Prior to their 2003 tour of the USA, Makshow was one of Blender magazine's featured artists, contributing the track Semi-Automatic to the cover CD 'Future Icons: 11 of the hottest unsigned bands in America!'
  • Paul once shared a flat with Frankie Poullain, then bass player of The Darkness, in a house that was the former residence of Jeff Beck. He continued to live in Belsize Park until very recently, and remain in north London.
  • Swap texts with us via a brilliant new service called SwarmTribes...more details on our blog.
  • Vote for Makshow at XFM
  • Makshow now have a page on Playlouder.
  • Brute would like an electric Vespa for his birthday, as soon as they manufacture one (he had a vivid dream about one that was painted a lovely retro shade of eggshell, so he lives in hope...)
  • Bandbox, on the other hand, is experimenting with wireless networks.
